Is there a chance for a vc release or a remake?

Considering there is no Gameboy platform on the Virtual Console and Nintendo generally doesn't make popular games like that available on WiiWare, I would say there is little to no chance. But if a Virtual Console does come to the DSi, I'm sure you'll see it released there at some point.

I'd say it has exactly the same chance of coming out as the handheld Mario and Zelda games do. Which I still feel is pretty high. The Game & Watch library being added to the DSi is a pretty big clue, I think, but we need to wait and see.

There are always possibilities for remake-type game; Metroid Zero-Mission.

###I was just playing that earlier today on Super Game Boy, and have about 36 more 'metroids' to collect.###
###When first starting out you have and get things fast to be able to morph-ball, bomb then 'spider-ball' and such.###

I wouldn't mind it just being a graphic update unlockable somewheres.
Or is something more needed for this title or franchise?

On the Wii Virtual Console, no. However, with the likely DSiWare Virtual Console, of course it'll happen!

I agree that a remake should happen. All Metroid fans are missing out on a important chapter of the series. Even if they do own the GB original, the most recent handheld that you can play it on is a GBA SP and then its an incredibly dated game.

Nintendo really needs to remake it for either WiiWare or DSiWare like Konami did with Castlevania: The Adventure.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Hokori

If they do that just dont remake Super Metroid because as of right now all Gumpei Yokoi has Is Metroid II and Super Metroid do be remembered by. Oh dont count VB
G&W is on DSiWare and DS replaced GB.
Oh and Maybe Kid Icarus

Rerelease on Virtual Console? No way. That's a great idea, but the Game Boy is not one of the supported systems. I'm not sure if there's going to be a DSiWare port or a possible Virtual Handheld, either. The best likely options are if the 3DS has a Virtual Handheld or Metroid II gets a remake on DS or 3DS. Personally, I would prefer a remake. Metroid II desparately needs a map, updated graphics, and improved music.

I've heard that some guys online are working on a Metroid 2 remake in the style of Zero Mission
@PunnyGuy I liked the music the way it was! The Overworld Theme was particularly catchy.

What I meant to say was remix the music to fit the sound quality of the current system, like how Metroid: Zero Mission remixed the original NES Metroid tunes for the improved sound quality of the GBA.

Nintendo could've released Game Boy games in a Super Game Boy form, like the incredible Metroid II

There's a fan remake using the Fusion / Zero Mission style in the works. Looks fantastic, no telling if it'll ever see the light of day, but it's one of the bigger fan projects out there in scope and professionalism, it seems, and gets a lot of attention for a fan remake.

Wow I forgot about that project as I learned of it either early 09 or before. I figured it long for dead.

he's using elements from zero mission and fusion as well as some of his own i think to build the game. personally, i'm more interested in this than a potential VC release on the 3DS, largely because of that thing in the top right corner: a map. he's apparently right at the end. i hope he gets it done before other m, so i can play them all in a row.

@romulux: Man, those are some nice looking screens, but there's still something to be said about the classics...

I'll let you know when I'm on a faster connection and can actually watch that video, romulux...

I'm constantly surprised that this hasn't been ceased and desisted. It's not like Mother 3 which was a simple text translation, for the most part, for a game that they had never released and no intentions of ever releasing. Here we have a game that they have released before, based on two games they released not that long ago, from a series still supported.

Glad they haven't though!
