It would be an interesting premise but I would rather Nintendo were more original but if it did happen the I agree with Toad fan in that it shouldn't be for while.
How about Metroid Generations with mainly 2.5D environments where you can either play it like a classic 2D Metroid game or switch to a first-person perspective to...wait a minute, this sounds familiar, somehow.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

This sounded familiar. Like when I was a weak and ignorant 13 year old girl. Luckily, our lord and savior Adam, had thought of this ahead of time but didn't tell anyone for no real reason. But I trusted him just as he had believed in stupid me. I showed this by showing my disapproval with a thumbs down like our other lord and savior, Robert Ebert. This symbolized something that the audience could have figure out. Unlike me, who couldn't figure out anything ever without sigh Adam.
Now imagine that with the acting skills of an elemantary school play.
Sorry, I never got a chance to fully make fun of that game. I felt like I was missing out.
