Topic: Is FF IV: The After Years a good option without DLC?

I've been following this game since long, especially 'cause I've played FFIV ds until the middle but I don't know if the main game is as attractive as it seems. Do you recommend the game without DLC or only with one DLC pack?

If you enjoy 16-bit old-school RPG gaming in the slightest, it's worth it. Though if you haven't finished FFIV in any form, I would say finish that first.

After that, if you feel like continuing the story, maybe just get the base game and the last chapter for the core storyline, but I love sidequest storylines, so I'm getting all the DLC myself.

It's up to you and how much you love the FFIV characters (Mmmm.....DELICIOUS Rosa/Rydia) to see how far you want to go!

I didn't know that you were supposed to finish FFIV first. I don't even have it.

You don't have to finish FFIV, but it helps explain a few things in The After Years better.

Well out of the core package I got over 13 hours of gameplay out of it, while I believe that's fantastic for $8, I don't know how well it'll translate for you, I bought Rydia's Tale,a nd I plan on buying the rest of the chapters, which gave me a reason to play it for 13+ hours, level grinding, finding good items, going through the bonus dungeons. If all you want is the core package then I don't really know if you'll find an incentive in doing all the bonus stuff since it won't really matter in the end for you like it will for me since I'll be buying them all.

But the game itself is fantastic, it plays like old school RPG's if that's your thing.

Only one extra chapter is out right now, Rydia's Tale. However, three more chapters come out next Monday(300 points each), and then three more the first Monday of August, and then the finale chapter in September.
