I wouldn't worry too much about the fields of virtual reality and mind control yet; it'll surely be more than 10 years before they make it affordable to the home console market.
Anyone wanna shorten the completely confusing paragraph of text in the first post?

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Ok... Paragraphs will get you far in life... Really. Apart from sparing people from having to pick through a wall of text, it allows you to organize your thoughts in an organized manner... That block of text just seems to go all over the place and the only thing I get out of it is that you want to go into game design.
On another note, you don't have to wait till you finish your degree to start designing and making games... Actually I would suggest making your own games while you study... For a creative job like game design, most employers will want to see a portfolio of your previous work before they hire you. Sure some assigned projects from class will be nice, but fleshing it out with games and design ideas that you created on your own time will help as well.
As for internships, they are a great way to get experience while studying for your degree. And game design is one of those jobs where you probably won't be hired as a lead designer straight out of school. You need to work your way up. Its like that in every profession. Well... Unless you start your own studio.
I actually have came up with a name for my own game studio "Bull's-Eye Studios"!
Okay I don't know how I can put this but next year I'm going to college to get my main credits out of the way but when I do major in game design it will be like 2012 (Assuming that I start next year and take 2 years) so if I start game design in 2012 and spend four years trying to earn a degree it will be like 2016 when I begin designing my first game and quite frankly I'm both excited and disappointed at the same time.
I like the way game design is moving forward in technology but that thing that really grinds my gears is that I want to make games reminiscent to the style of the NES and SNES days from the 80s and 90s but with "Mind Control" and whatnot I'm afraid my ideas will be rendered outdated and obsolete. Now don't get me wrong I like the idea of Mind Control and Virtual Reality but I'm not designing games where you are "virtually there" because that would require playing as yourself and not a fictional character (Mario, Sonic, etc.). I have optimism for gaming in 2020 but I just wish I had been born in like 1968 so I could have been a game designer in late 80s. I was born in 1988 and I'm currently 21.
I just think that realistic gaming is taking off too early. Gaming has came a long way in 37 years If you think about it. It was 1972 when Pong came out, then the 80s came and games became more advanced with the help of the NES, finally in the early 90s games were going 16-bit and by the mid 90s games were going 3D, at the turn of the century 3D graphics were getting better and better, now when the Wii came out 3 years ago, motion control began. Now the idea for one of my games is an RPG and it combines Earthbound with Chrono Trigger which were two of the best RPGs for the SNES back in 1995. I'm just worried that my ideas will be rendered obsolete because of this new technology!
Hey, you and me both! I'm planning to major in Game Designing, too! It'll be around 2012 or so before I'm able to start my studies as well! Maybe we could work together. Heh. And don't worry about your ideas being obsolete and don't ever let anyone tell you any different. Constructive criticism can help you fine-tune your ideas, but remember, no one else can duplicate your ideas. They are yours and that's what makes them special. Be sure to follow through with them. Also
It's not a joke, I'm really going into game design. I'm just sick of all the M-rated games out there these days. Would it kill for people to make more E-rated games?
I definitely agree with this. This is why I stick by Nintendo because of all their great E-rated games and such. Whenever I do get into the industry, I'd hope to be able to make games geared toward kids in the likes of Mario and such. My current job allows me to give kids something to read, so hopefully I'll be able be able to continue this in the game industry. I also want to say that the reason I play games is not to have the most realistic experience ever. Immersion is important but is not totally reliant on graphics alone, and it also depends upon the person playing. I play games in order to go to a fantasy world that is fun and wonderful. Corny? Maybe, but it's true. It's an escape from reality, just like any good book or movie can be.
Oh, and as for the Mind Control thing, I've seen a commercial on TV where the people are wearing a special bandana that reads their brainwaves or something and allows them to levitate a ball through hoops and such. Do I actually believe this commercial and what it's advertising? No, but there it is.

Do you have a YouTube or MySpace account so that I can reach you?
Ok. If you have a PS3 or anything, you can add me on there. My PSN and Wii FC # and such are in my sig. I've made a few games myself while I was in High School, so I could send those to you if you wanted. My friend helped me make some games using a program called GameMaker. It was nice practice.

Okay I might think about it, but do you have Skype on your PSP or PSP Go?
Looking at the ideas he has in the first post, that's exactly what he'll have to do. Well, at least the current generation with it's heaps of downloadable games from small studios makes his dreams somewhat fulfillable.
I hope the OP is a troll cause he is very oblivious to reality if he is actually real. Talking about mind control and creating games.... then not even knowing what an internship is.
The problem with modern-day pop culture is that it all lacks a critical amount of imagination. I long for the '80s and '90s, seriously. Somebody needs to come along and reinvigorate every medium imaginable. But, nobody these days has that kind of vision. Nobody but me anyway, but it's all hush-hush!

Yeah I know what you mean, it's sad that Hollywood and the Video Game industry can't deliver good stuff anymore like they used to. I hope on December 21, 2012 society goes back to normal!
I think Good has a skewed perspective of how the gaming industry works. Like has been said, unless you start small making free games or small downloadable iphone games, you're going to start in a company at the very bottom where your creative vision isn't going to be that important. You have to work your way up the ladder, like anything else. You can't really expect to hop in and expect to have the run of the place.
