My copy of Spyborgs came through the post yesterday and I've been addicted ever since! This game is a great value back to basics, strategic brawler wrapped up in a beautifully presented package! Admittedly this game is HARD I got my butt kick more than a few times in the first half hour I played (going through on Normal difficulty) but once I figured out how to block and got some upgrades this game really started to shine. Combat is simple at first but deceptively deep, and you have to approach the levels with a great amount of strategy if you want to survive as there are few checkpoints. I really want to drive home how great I think this game is in contrast to some of the unjustified and shockingly bad reviews out there. Bionic Games have put a lot of effort into this title and just because its hard doesn't mean it should end up in the bargain bin where I'm afraid it might be heading

It's been on my radar since it was first announced, but I've been a bit lacking in money and time lately so I haven't really been picking anything up right at launch. I'll pick this one up eventually though.

I won't be picking up another game at launch until Galaxy 2.
I love beat-'em-ups, and I really want this game. It's the first game listed on my video game Christmas list.
Most of the reviews complain about repetativeness, but no one seems to understand that repetative combat isn't a problem in the beat-'em-up genre. You might go so far as to argue that beat-'em-ups are supposed to be repetative and are more fun because of it. Another common complaint against beat-'em-ups (although less of a complaint with Spyborgs) is shallow gameplay, but once again, beat-'em-ups aren't supposed to have really deep gameplay. The simple gameplay is part of what makes them so fun, although at least a little depth in the gameplay is needed, which is no problem for Spyborgs. The difficulty is another complaint, but there are different difficulty levels. Just because a really hard difficulty level was selected as the default or recommended difficulty doesn't mean you can't play it on easy if you need to do so. From what I hear, I'm going to have to start on the easiest difficulty. Maybe I can beat the next hardest difficulty after some practice, but I'm not likely to beat the game on any higher difficulty levels than that, and that's just fine with me. Some reviews even complain about it being too short, but an average of 5 to 10 minutes for 35 levels is a lot longer than the excellent 90s beat-'em-up series like TMNT and Streets of Rage. Beat-'em-ups are meant to be continually replayed from the beginning lots of times either by yourself or with different friends, so they don't need to be as long as some other genres.
A totally incoherent and confusing story mentioned by one review is a legitimate complaint (beat-'em-ups don't need much of a story, but if included, it should still make sense), and I would've liked online coop to be included, but overall, if you ignore the complaints based on the reviewers' ignorance of how the genre works, you'll find that Spyborgs has gotten very good reviews.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
I got the game. Despite some low review scores and a few good review scores, I found the game really good. It can be challenging. So far I played through all the way on Novice which anyone should be able to beat. I have replayed quite a few levels on higher difficulty. I just found the game to be quite a bit of fun. Graphics are pretty good also.
