Topic: How reliable is the "Wii Lens Cleaning Kit"?

So my Wii stopped reading my game disks recently and I'm thinking about getting the Wii Lens Cleaning Kit thing when it is back in stock at my local GameStop. My warranty ran out and I would rather spend $10 dollars on it than sending my Wii in to get repaired for $75. Have any of you used this product before, how well does it work?

Well, that's hard to say. If it is just a dirty lens, then I hear it works pretty well. However, if it is a mechanical failure of the Wii then it's not going to do much of anything. I know that isn't very helpful, but I guess it can't hurt to give it a shot.

I had to use one to clean my lens, and it worked like a charm. Took 3 cleans (comes with plenty of supplies), but I haven't had to touch it since. Definitely worth the 10 bucks if your lens is dirty; however, I knew it was the lens and not the system as it had no problems running regular games but suddenly didn't like the dual layer discs. The DLs are harder to read with a mucked up lens.

In my experience, it's very reliable...

I've only used one once. Didn't sort my problem, however it did have dirt on it, so it does seem to clean the lens. If dirt is the issue you should be fine, but if it needs more adjustment or is a mechanical failure (do you hear the drive head moving when you have a disc in there or a whirring sound?) then you're out of luck.

At least minor drive corrections are cheap. In the UK a major repair is £70, but my optical drive issue only set me back £30 because it was classified as a "minor fault" - no probs since!

@Sean Aaron
I did notice that it sounds weaker when a game is in there but I still here the noise of it trying to read the disc,
but I did get Mario kart wii and Pikmin to work.

In that case it's probably a minor lens adjustment or could even be dirt. Can't hurt to have the lens cleaner that's for sure.
