Topic: How long until the next console?

Just wondering when Nintendo plans on releasing its next console. I don't want to keep buying Wii things if another console is right around the corner.

Nobody knows.

We'll probably find out next year in the run up to E3 like with the 3DS.

I'm betting it's out next year... but it's hard to guess when the Wii is still selling so well.

We might here about it next E3 or get other little hints on it from interviews and such through the year like the 3DS.

Could easily be another 2 years. and it's not like your Wii suddenly disappears when a new console is released

regardless of when it is, there's no reason to stop buying wii things (unless you're stopping so you can save up money to get the new console). Nintendo is all about backwards compatibility... i would put considerable money on the table in favor of the next console being able to support Wii titles.

I predict 2012 at the earliest.

On yahoo there was a rumor that NO next gen home consoles are going to come out untio around 2015. That's ok cuz I'm still having fun with my wii.

I'm predicting it will be revealed next year and come out either the following holiday season or Holiday 2012.

I can't imagine it coming out later than Holiday 2011.
Nintendo just released SMG2, NSMBWii... they are releasing Metroid: Other M and Skyward Sword in the coming months, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and DKC Returns.
In short, all of their major franchises had an entry that was either recently released or coming soon.

I don't imagine that Nintendo plans on making any more entries in these franchises for the Wii; I also don't imagine that they will wait 2+ years for the next entry.
Therefore I surmise that the next entries in these series will be hitting the next generation Nintendo console. And the console will be released late next year.

Christmas, next year, WiiHD on par with the systems that are out there now with integrated motion plus and other little goodies I imagine too and all for your usual standard Nintendo pricing no less. Perhaps I'm leaking something I learned, or I'm making ramblings but that's for you to decide.

I will say though I do know that MS and Sony are looking to at earliest 2014 for the next hardware. Greatly influenced by their mass losses on their stupid sales model on hardware, combined with the atrocious economy, and third parties suffering heavily not wanting to lose cash and time kitting up for new hardware has forced it -- which is why we're seeing Move and Kinect with a rebranding of both systems as something kinda new.

I totally agree. As long as the Wii is selling there's no reason for Nintendo to replace it with anything. I expect they'll continue to release games for it, hopefully tweak the online (shop/game lobby) to ensure they have a healthier ecosystem in the leadup to the successor and focus most of their energy on the 3DS.

I have no doubt there's a potential successor waiting in the wings and probably has been for awhile, but they'll wait until sales take a serious dip before replacing the current machine. I definitely don't think they'd want to have both a new handheld and new home system launching in the same year.

I don't expect another new console just yet....I think they are going to hit their stride this year where normally this usually happens "half-way" through its life cycle.

If it is indeed half-way through...expect another 4 more years (at the most) before we see the next consoles come in.

As others have said....the Wii has become a huge success...even beating N64's and Gamecube's sales combined....would they want to risk releasing a new console when customers are still interested in getting one of these?

I guess my Wii still has plenty of life in it and I can continue buying games and accessories.

It's too early to bring out a new console. All the current ones still get plenty of use, and it will be that way for at least another year, if not longer.
