Topic: Help! My Wii boots to a black screen!

Today I was going to play my Wii when it strangely loaded to a black screen. I unplugged it for 5 minutes and plugged it back in and still nothing! I'm currently in the process of making a SaveMiiFrii, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Once, my Wii did that. I, out of anger, banged the power cord on the floor. I settled down, plugged it in, and it booted to the default Wii boot2.

Just checked out the Nintendo website's Tech Support and the Tech Support Forums. Unfortunately, everything seems to point to sending the Wii in to have it repaired.

Did this start before ro after you updated to the 4.0 menus? Or, did you even update at all?

Things like that began happening to me after I had downloaded Wii System Update 4.0. I sometimes have to reset my Wii because it gets caught in a black screen, but it always works again afterwards.

If I register my Wii on Club Nintendo, can I send it in for repair for free even though I bought it used and never had a warranty?

Uh, no, you're probably going to end up paying for it; especially if you've bricked it because you were trying to softmod it. In fact I'm pretty sure they charge extra if the Wii has be modded now.

When I load up a game, every now and again it hangs on a black-screen, only for about 20 seconds though and then wakes up. It never used to this, but I don't know if it's due to the update, or me poking around inside when i fixed the noise problem. Anyone else get this?

@fudgenuts sounds like you need a new Wii dude, ouch!

Mine will occasionally take awhile to load the Mii Channel and sometimes a game (last night it was the case with Namco Museum Remix). I suspect the 4.0 update is responsible; maybe it's some kind of anti-hacking measure where it's inspecting system data?

Oh well, I'm still gonna try to call them. My Wii's serial number begins with LU64, which means I can probably get my Wii fixed for free.

I called them today and I'm getting a free repair! I'm going to a repair center in Syracuse on Monday as I have to go camping (I don't even want to go )

Well the camping trip got cut short (we got rained out and everyone got bored). Anyway, do you think they will find out that I have homebrew on my system? I tried booting into recovery mode with no luck so I'm assuming there just going to replace my NAND.

I got it fixed. But they installed the new circuit board badly and it broke again about a hour after I got it. I hate my life.

That's what you get for using the homebrew channel.

THAT'S KARMA FOR YOU!!!!!!

anyway, my wii did the same yesterday while loading the news channel.... it never happened before, hopefully it won't die anytime soon like in the next 15 years.
