Topic: Games like Rad Racer?

I never played Rad Racer as a kid, but I've been playing it in an emulator a great deal lately. It's sort of like a more modern take on one of my favorite 2600 games: Enduro, Are there any modern releases that are similar in their overall feel?

They should make a Rad Racer 2.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

THey did, and its on the NES and very similar to the first game except you cannot select different cars.

Rad Racer was awesome and why it's not on Nintendo's VC anywhere still boggles my brain. SEGA's Out Run was in the arcade around the same time. To me, RR felt alot like that game. As far as modern racing games like Rad Racer? Gran Turismo 3 on PS2 is good fun (I don't have much modern gaming racing experience).

Anyways, I learned just a few years ago that Rad Racer was dev'd by Square (Squaresoft at the time). They also developed it's sequel, which I've never played. It came with a set of 3D glasses for it's weird and not very effective 3D mode. YES. Decades before the 3DS, Nintendo was dipping it's hands in some sort of 3D technology, at at least attempting too. Haha!

EDIT: Also, no matter how much I edit this comment, it stil puts two "around"s in that second sentence. D:

Rad Racer II for the NES is mostly the same. I have a copy that I got for $3.00. its missing the 3D mode, the F1 race car and has a few new levels and music. It also has a turbo boost button that I never knew existed because its silent. Its a decent game for $3.00 but I find more nostalgia with the original Rad Racer.

A lot of people have said that Rad Racer is basically an OutRun ripoff, but I don't know if it's that simple — and this is coming from a Master System fanboy. But just after reading your message I remembered that Sega released OutRun 3D on the Master System long before Rad Racer II — so maybe it was a clone after all.

By the way, Sega had 3D glasses since 1986 and I owned them. It was cool but they gave me serious headaches after 15 minutes of playing.
