Perhaps they should release a GameCube Channel so that it can detect what GC game you're playing and can actually return to the Wii Menu from the channel.

What? That's rediculous. Wii already plays GC games, a separate channel is not needed.

Besides, you can eject the disc to check.

One time I was able to shut down the system from a GCN disc, it must have been a glitch because it never happened again. Also, my Wii remote stayed connectioned, hence being able to communicate. They should just update it to read it from the main disc channel.

Well, GC games didn't have "intros" like wii games so there's not much it can do about that. There would be no point in a separate channel, since the disc channel turns into a "gamecube channel" of sorts when the GC disc is put in. If Nintendo could do these things easily I'm sure they would already be done.

They could display a scaled save file image as the "intro"... but that wouldn't always work out very well.

But I always thought the reason this didn't work was because Gamecube mode was completely separate from Wii mode, using slightly different hardware and totally different firmware inside the Wii. Is that a misconception?

Edit: I mean, you could still totally read the disc and show a separate Gamecube channel... I'm just not sure you could use the Wii remote to shut down the system or return to the Wii menu after playing a Gamecube title.
