You know I always wondered, but couldn't get enough information... Is the Wii Ware game (After Years) a sequel to FFII on the VC? I wanted to play the VC one first then play After Years, but I wanted to know if it was a sequel or not.
If someone could help me out that would be awesome ^^ By the way...I heard alot of negative things about After Years...did anyone actually like it, and is it worth it? Either way I will probably get it regardless i'm just curious to see what you all think =]

I haven't played either of them, but I do know that you are correct in your assumption that After Years is a sequel to FF2 on VC. Although, if you can afford it, you may prefer FF4 on DS as the more accurate version of the game compared to the original Japanese version, as I believe the Western FF2 release had its difficulty toned down.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I'll get it eventually, as well. I'm a fan of anything and everything that is FF4.

Yes, it's a sequel. FFII is actually FFIV, and After Years is the continuation. The most negativity is that each episode is short and it's mostly recycles gameplay, graphics, and dungeons. Personally, I'm not paying $40 for a recycles game that's only really an epilogue. I'll just watch some lets plays on Youtube and spend that money on more worthwhile things, like that new DS FF that just came out. But if you think you'll like it, go ahead.

Assuming you have finished Final Fantasy IV (or II, if you insist), and loved the game's world and characters, then yeah, I personally think it's worth it. You don't really need to buy every character's story - I certainly haven't - but revisiting my favourite characters from one of the better Final Fantasy games is good fan service, IMO.

FF2 on the VC is awesome but the After Years on Wiiware is not so much- After Years has almost no story, recycled dungeons/bosses, and tons of level grinding in order to move on (it feels more like old Dragon Quest).

You say that like it's a bad thing. Besides, I always liked the SNES translation best.
For me, it is a good thing, but there are a lot of gamers on the Internet who either hate dumbed down difficulty levels or any significant changes from original Japanese versions of games.
By the way, is it true that FF4 is one of only a small amount of FF games to have a love story with a happy ending?

I will say the addition of the lunar cycle to The After Years is pretty neat; depending on if the moon is waxing, waning, full or new will affect the strength of your spells and fighting ability. The moon changes when you sleep in an inn, tent, stuff like that.
Anyway, not much that feels too new in After Years, but the lunar cycle thing is a neat idea. Good luck with FFII, it's a great title!
Now, if they'd only make a FFVI The After Years...
Just one week, although that's still pretty unrealistic, but do you really want to go through a whole 29 day cycle?

Yeah, After Years is a sequel to II/IV. I don't know why Nintendo decided to keep the original the same, but keep the Japanese numeral for our release. Those silly pranksters...

I don't know why Nintendo decided to keep the original the same,
...because that was what it was originally called. They aren't in the habit of changing name's of VC games. Only the American SNES game gets called FFII which was the version released.
but keep the Japanese numeral for our release.
Because thats what the game is widely known as now.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
I've finished all of the tales except the "Lunarian's Tale" and the "The Crystals", I'm kind of anxious to see how everything ties together in the end (especially with the time/money I've invested in to all the DLC). I'm pretty sure I'll be playing both through Thanksgiving break.
