I don't know, the majority of my Wii games I wouldn't have known even existed if I didn't join this site (and I joined only... 5 months ago?). A Boy and His Blob, Klonoa, Muramasa, NSMBW, even Metroid Prime Trilogy... if I didn't visit this site regularly I wouldn't know that any of those games exist. I just don't think Gamespot/IGN/NL/etc. are the ideal venues to market your video game. You're marketing to the already-informed. And with the Wii's incredibly wide audience, those TV ads will reach a huge percentage of Wii owners that internet ads won't.
Also, where's your research? Do games like Super Mario Galaxy and Modern Warfare 2 use TV campaigns because they know they'll make a lot of money anyway? Their games will be so profitable that they see a sunk cost in TV advertisement as no big deal?
