I looked for one, but I couldn't find a topic anywhere about this on here (besides for Returns). Sorry if this is a duplicate topic.
I have a really big fan of the Donkey Kong Country series as a whole, since all of them have been released.
Recently, I started playing through the orignal again on the Wii VC.
I want to fully complete the game, and I have one question, and I feel kind of dumb for not knowing the answer at this point off the top of my head for sure.
I know when you get all the bonus stages in one level, there is a ! at the end of the level's name.
My question is, if you get to a bonus stage, then die and come back, do you have to visit that bonus level again, or did it count already?
Also, do you have to collect everything in the Bonus stages??

In the first game, no, you just have to enter the bonus room for it to count. I think you can die and it will still count.
In the second and third games, you do need to collect the coin at the end for it to count.
Right. I remember the second and third ones with the coins. That kind of makes it more simple, ya know? Oh well. Still love the first one. I've played through ti many times but I never seem to really sit down and go for full completion until now (and I think once a few years ago).
While we are sort of on the topic, I think that 2 is the best of the three games.

Donkey Kong Country 2 is one of my favorite SNES games ever. I hope that Donkey Kong Country Returns wasn't the last we've heard from DK and friends. I usually get in to a DKC craze every couple of years and replay all three Super Nintendo games, such a great series. DK64 was a great game too, my only complaint on that game is that it is super long! Oh and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat for Gamecube was a really great game in my opinion. It was just like the Country series but with bongos. There was a rumor a while back that stated that a new DK game was coming to the 3DS. or possibly an enhanced port of DKCR. I know it's only a matter of time before Donkey makes a 3DS rampage.

The graphics in the second and third games make my eyes bleed... They don't look nearly as bright and as beautiful as the first one, and I prefer the GBA and GBC ports over the SNES games... Hope they become Club nintendo rewards!

The GBA versions are cool, but they don't quite hold up to the SNES versions for me. I guess it's the smaller screen or something. Not real sure. I could see both sides of that though really.

The port of the third game for GBA has a brand new world added to it but aside from that I guess personal preference wins out.
Yeah I guess it is too. For some reason, it is hard for me to get as much into handhelds as I do console games. Always has been. I guess it's not quite as epic when the screen is so small. For me anyway.

I know i'm probably in the minority, but I thought that Donkey Kong Country Returns was not only one of the best Wii games obviously, but also my personal favorite DKC game. I just think the level designs are amazing and there's a lot of creativity in all the different environments and the beautiful graphics really bring everything to life with color. What do you all think of DKCR though, and how would you rate it compared to the rest of the series?

I'm also a big fan of DKC, beat all three games many times and stopped on last level of Returns, feels bad..
I started about a year ago to replay them all on the Wii Virtual Console, stopped in the middle of DKC2, should also get back to the final boss fight of DKCR.
You just reminded me to get back to it! Thanks!
My body is ready, can you say the same? Is your body ready?
You know what I hate about Donkey Kong Country? The run button and roll are the same button. I wish roll was X.
You know what I hate about DKC Returns? You have to shake to roll. Really turned me off the game.
I never really minded that because there are certain games where shaking the remote feels natural like doing a spin in SMG and having the roll assigned to shaking felt natural for me. Could it be a little imprecise? Yeah, but overall I didn't mind.
I really enjoy this series. 2 is one of my favorite games, but I do have a soft spot for the GBA version of 3 (Bonus world and I prefer the soundtrack) and the original is pretty good for a basic platformer.
DKCR was pretty fantastic, but I did massively prefer it when I didn't have to shake to roll. They really should have included a classic controller scheme for the release.
