Topic: Do you buy VC games if you already have the system?

So I have the very bad habit of browsing the Wii Shop Channel and buying VC I like and then buying the real game a little later, so I really just wasted my money on the VC purchase because I have the real thing. NO MORE! I've decided to only buy the real version, since I have all the Nintendo systems anyway, unless it's uber-rare and expensive.
Do you still buy VC games if you have the system already? Or do you look for the real version of the game instead? I know a lot of people say they have this or that console, but they never bought the game back in the day, so they get the VC version. Why do this when you have the system?

I like me some VC. It has great emulation, and I hate online shopping and dont have any retro consoles right now.Im now loving Majoras Mask to death

I have every Nintendo console, and I prefer to focus my points on Wiiware, so I decided to buy only 1 game per third party console (The one which best recalls the console's charm, and the more proper to my preferences and gaming style, so I do a little research here, on wikipedia and youtube before I decide, but sadly I had a couple of bad choices which I replaced later)

Besides, no emulator can recreate the feeling inside of you for playing the game in its original form, and cant stare at carts.

My collection of games for my old consoles already contains my favorites, so, I mostly buy VC games from consoles that I don't have, or the few games I missed that are rare (as in can't find them on real stores, since I don't like online shopping) or expensive, like imports, but there are some exceptional games, I can get, or already have, that love that much that I download anyway.

I get some games for my Genesis, and some from the VC. I'm trying to start an collection of SNES, NES games too, despite owning the system. However, on other systems, I have to rely on the Virtual Console.

Yeah, I buy N64 games despite having an N64. And until they release SSB, Rare's classics, etc., I refuse to give it up.

Yes I do. I buy the games on VC if its cheaper than buying the cart. I have two Sega Genesis systems and yet if I do not feel like tracking down the cart or if I think its gonna be cheaper to get on VC I buy it on VC. Also I technically have an N64 but my brother has not given it back for 4 years so I have bout about 8 total 64 games from VC. Hopefully I get my 64 back this coming weekend as he promised bring it but hell I cannot hold my breath. I have downloaded I think about 25 VC games for the Nes,Snes,Genesis and 64 combined.

I would get a game if its not on the VC. Otherwise I would get it on the VC for the sake of convenience.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Of VC-supported systems, I own an N64 and a Famicom. I've bought a couple NES games, since Famicom games aren't just something you stumbe over on a regular basis, but if the Japanese version appeals to me more (like, say, River City Ransom or Ninja Gaiden 3) I'll skip on the VC version and wait for the cart.

I've yet to buy a single N64 game from the VC, but I owned the majority of the released games long before the VC was even announced, anyway.

I own a Sega Master System and a SNES but I have brought games for both on the VC. The Master System is rooted now and I really wanted to play Alex Kidd in Miracle World again and the real SNES (and even PC emulation) doesn't compare to the visual quality and convenience of playing it on the Wii.

Having said that I am not going nuts with SNES games on the VC. I only have Donkey Kong Country thus far (not sure why I picked it in particular) and I later intend to get Super Mario Kart when it comes out even though I already own it. Oh, and if I did have a DSi and a portable VC was launched I would probably re-buy Donkey Kong Land and maybe also get Link's Awakening. Other than that no.

I've downloaded two NES games, a SNES game, and various N64 games, despite having the consoles. I only download those of interest that I don't have.

I still have my NES, Genesis, N64, all working fine (along with a bunch of other non-VC retro consoles). I'll go VC unless it's either a game that's not going to get a release (licesne issues or whatever), or something that i really want to have the original version for collection/nostalgia purposes.

And i am guilty of buying multiple VC titles which i already own (Mario games in particular), just to have them readily accesible on a single system.

This is pretty much why I don't buy VC games. I'll look for the real thing because I've done the exact same thing as you... I only buy games that were imported, but the only one I have that is imported is Sin and Punishment. I have Super Mario All-Stars so that knocks off Super Mario Bros. 2 JPN version.

@shpydar: I downloaded DKC3 as an excuse to play DKC without having to drag out my SNES. The same goes for Lost Levels and SMB.

Hmmm. I have a Super Nintendo & a Nintendo 64 & that's about it for the VC Compatible systems I own. I don't really have a pattern for Super NES games except I have more games that're on the original cartridges rather than on the VC whch will obviously stay that way. For the Nintendo 64, I have WAY more Nintendo 64 games that're on cartridges rather than on the VC. In fact, I have 40 N64 carts & 2 N64 games on the VC.

Here's the thing:

I've played the Mario NES titles before since it was a long time ago when I was majorly young; & one my cousin had the NES system back then! But NO I did not have the NES!

The SNES was my first system; & I had that until the late 1990's when it broke down & turned yellow! I still have the system though; it's in my colset now with my 2 SNES controllers & my top 4 beloved games for it: Zelda ALttP, DKC, DKC2, & TMNT IV! If I ever wanted a new working SNES; it'd be just to play TMNT IV Turtles in time... but I'd have a hard time earning money for a new SNES anyway!

And I also had my N64 for a long time until I decided to trade that in mid 2006; for the bit of money I got from it! I Belive I saved that money up for Zelda TP; which I bought my beloved Zelda game in November... before I got my Wii on Christmas 2006!

I knew the Wii was well going to come out by then; so I knew the Virtual Console would be my only reason to get all of my cherished games again! I'd much rather have the VC versions on all of the classics I played back then; & I don't regret not wanting to give up my Wii just because of all of the VC games & I downloaded! Same thing goes for all of the best Wii games & personal favorite games I bought/got as gifts!

I have exactly 56 VC games & 22 Wii games! And my collection will continue to grow; that is if Nintendo releases only the classics & best new first party games they are known for! Same will go for the very minimal third party VC games & Wii games; being I have very few personal favorite game series I like!

So yes I had the systems; but I don't anymore... & I think anyone knows that some people prefer the VC if you don't have the old systems anymore or had them in the past! Some of us are collector's; but don't usually have the time to collect cold hard earned cash just for old video game systems & their games! Sometimes downloading games is just as fun!

I never had a NES, SNES, N64 on their time. I had a Genesis which I still have. Downloading all those games is like having that console finally!
Playing TGX16, Neo geo, C64 and SMS is like playing consoles I only knew by hear. It is interesting.

One word "YES"

I like having the original systems though to play games that won't make it to the VC.

I still have my older systems, but I usually buy games that I didn't play on the original systems, along with one I did play on them

Mama_Luigi

Yes, i own a Nintendo 64 and i'm planning to buy every N64 game that is on the VC.
