Ok, where to post this was kind of challenging: General Discussion? Nope.
Other Gaming? Maybe, but I can't bother with Sony fanboys jumping down my throat for what G4 is saying.
So I posted here. Deal.

Anyways, I read most of it and well, I'm not sure what to say but what are your opinons?

Discuss below!

EDIT: I read it all. Compelling read and some good facts there. But the console wars being a 3-way tie? Wow. PC gamers lose by the way .

Hmm...

More like "Nintendo beat the crap out of the competition."

Sensationalist drivil, it is. Just more crap those so called journalists put out to get those stupid fanboys going and get more hits on thier site.

and the PC is not in direct competition with the Console market, i.e. the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360. It's in a class all its own, much like the handheld systems. It would be pointless to reference it in a console-focused article.

Strong words there, Mickeymac.

The only thing I totally hated about this generation was the fact that video gaming websites like IGN or G4 or 1UP tended to lean to a particular side and may have create some bias of it. Most people I hear say IGN leans towards the 360 and it looks like G4 is on Sony's side because:

1. Morgan Webb probably made one of the dumbest comments in an X-Play review (the new Ratchet & Clank game), comparing it to Mario Galaxy which she said "was for kids and adults were kinda off on how to play it."
2. They sometimes make some Nintendo wise-cracks.
3. G-Phoria (EVERY YEAR!) is the most biased (yet somehow viewer-choiced) gaming "awards" show ever! And in their own Best of Year awards, barely a nominee on a Nintendo platform!
4. They're just not the G4 they were back then spreading the love across all the platforms. They're all Spike TV for nerds and s**t.

It's great how I found NLife because we all deeply love Nintendo but we consider the competition and their strengths whether in gaming material, peripherals or just plain undividedness when it comes to gaming.
We all game. It doesn't matter which game or which platform or which company is responsible for it, we play for our own reason.

I think he overestimates how much of an effect the Wii had on the 360 sales. People that were planing on buying a 360 have done so and that number wouldn't have spiked too much without the Wii. Maybe a million more in sales which fine, that's a big number, but in the grander scheme of things not super significant.

In a Wii-less environment we'd also have either a completely different Nintendo console or Nintendo would be a third party developer. If we had a different Nintendo console a big piece of those Wii sales would have gone to that console rather than the 360. Actually there's nothing that really indicates that 360 would get a bigger chunk of the Wii pie than the PS3. And most of those sales would just disappear. Gut feeling tells me that if not a majority, then atleast the biggest piece of the Wii userbase bought a Wii because it's a Wii and wouldn't have bought a console otherwise or instead of. And if Nintendo turned into a third party entity... Well, what's the rule of Japanese developers? They support Japanese consoles primarily.

In theory you could just remove Nintendo completely and pretend it never existed but that is such a hypothetical situation that it's on the verge of meaningless to speculate about it... Hey, why stop with removing Nintendo from the recent timeline. How about removing them entirely from history... Gut feeling then says, we'd be playing on some wacky Amiga console right about now and this situation wouldn't even happen. Heck, if Amiga had better traction and not as much competition with consoles, together with Commodore they might have managed to push out Microsoft from the scene even before they got a solid footing in the first place... No Microsoft! YAY!

All in all, seems to me that Microsoft would have some trouble getting a larger market share then they have right now. They've had every opportunity to dominate the market this time around, apart from red ringing they've had no major set backs, and they've played most of their cards right... And this was what they got out of it. They've capped out. I'm not sure what they could do to improve this, could be an image issue but I don't know. Anyway, pretty sure what we got right now, as far as the "360 vs PS3" goes, is what we would have gotten even without the great big Wii novelty spike.

I just want to digress for a second and suggest that NintendoLife could relaunch itself as GamingLife, considering how much discussion goes on here about all three console platforms. You never know it might happen.

Remove Nintendo from the timeline? :@

Well if you would do that, be careful.
Mario and the NES saved video gaming after the '83 crash.

Never forget.

I'm sure there are many overlooked PS3 and 360 downloadable games that has been wrongfully overlooked and deserve some attention. Oh and Steam. And then freeware titles. And then we'll take on IGN and Gamespot and kick their asses and then become the most powerful gaming site in the world!
AND THEN WE'LL TAKE OVER THE ENTIRE PLANET!!!!! JIPPEE!!!
(might have skipped a few intermediate steps there...)

My question: What? This article makes no sense. If Sony was being beaten by the 360, they would've dropped their prices sooner. I'm just not getting the point. And if you look at the article as an argument point, it completely fails. It has so many flaws that it might as well be Swiss cheese (that's the correct expression, right?).

Yes they did. But I sometimes feel people are overstating their importance in saving gaming. Man has always to re-enact and simulate things and man has always wanted to play. Things might have taken a bit longer, but video games have bounced back. The death of Atari left a great big hole and someone was gonna fill it. Nintendo just happened to first with getting it right. If they hadn't... Well, for example Sega was already up and running by then and would most likely have gotten the market going again a few years later instead. Things would certainly be different, but gaming would still exist.

And besides, the crash of 1983 didn't threaten the whole of gaming, just console gaming. Computer gaming was doing fine. Also, the video game crash was largely an American event. The Japanese market hardly noticed and Europe did pretty fine aswell..

Warranty. There are great games, and there is a warranty.

Sadly, the P.C gaming market has been pretty lame for some time now. Take it back a decade, though......

@The Fox: Sad, but true. Where would the flipping PS360 scene be, if PC games hadn't spent years evolving and refining first person shooter's. What have teh beefy consoles added to the genre? Dual analogue? Pah, massive step backwards.

I have no idea if that was on/off topic, oh well, mini rant complete

Not every game on those consoles is a first person shooter.
