As there are no more SDTVs in my life, I'm looking to upgrade to component cables. The issue is component cables can be EXPENSIVE, and there is a wide price range. I've read a bunch of reviews on Amazon, but it seems like probably half of them are plugging their shiny new component cables into their 20 year old TV's or something. I know you guys know your stuff! Right now, I'm looking at 3 different component cable brands:
Official Nintendo: About $30 new Nyko - $15-$20 new Mycarryingcase HD Pro - $5.50 on Amazon.
Which cables have you used, and how well have they worked? I don't mind spending the extra money on the cables for the best picture and to keep from messing up my Wii. However, if the cheap ones work as well as the expensive ones, then I don't want to waste my money.
i just bypassed all the decision making and bought the nintendo cables; they're every bit as perfect as you expect. as steep as the $30 is, i'd do it over again for the build quality and improvement you get.
i did buy an off-brand set from amazon for a friend, but even though they were highly rated i didn't see as much improvement; his tv is a bigger 1080p model while mine is 720p, so it could be that the extra scaling and size are to blame just as easily as the $6 cables. either way, if you buy nintendo you won't have to worry about things like that. plus, you'll add to their mountain of delicious money.
I've got official cables presently, but when I got the NA Wii I figured I'd save some cash and got some no-name ones that worked just fine. The only thing I would say is ensure the vendor is local and keep your receipt!
Thanks for starting this thread, TG! I just got a new and better TV (Samsung 40") and was figuring on finally picking up component cables myself. I had held out before even though my previous TV was a large HDTV too (LG 37"), it had so few available ports -- with the new TV now everything can get stepped up, 360 to HDMI and Wii to Component.
I'll probably just get the official one, but i've never had problems with Nyko stuff before, so i'm glad to hear they're a good alternative to save some rupees.
I bought the offical ones and they work great. Well, sort of, I barely have them connected because they don't work with all my VC games! Hurry up and sort it out Nintendo!
