My Wii just won't read the disc for anything. Anybody else having trouble? It won't read SSB Brawl either. I think it's that they are on stupid dual layer discs.

Did you update your Wii? If you did, you probably need to contact Nintendo about this.

I can tell you, my nieces just had to send their Wii in for that very same problem. It would read some games and wouldn't read others.

Plain old gamer :)

I think I would with the cleaning kit before sending it in to Nintendo because I've heard that sometimes when you send your console in to them it takes up to 2 weeks to get it back and I don't think I could go that long without my Wii.

Sometimes it's just the Wii and not a dirty lens. Contact them anyway and they should be able to tell you whether or not you need to send it in.

I think it is the lens because it reads every disc perfectly except the double layer ones.

Thanks Zaphod. I also looked up that they sell it at game stop so I think I'll buy it there because I'm going there Friday.

Did you try a system update for your Wii?

My Wii is fully updated. It is just that the lens is dirty I believe.

Oh f***! I completely neglected the fact that MPT is on a dual layer disc. My Wii hates them sooo much, I sold Brawl recently because it had stopped working, again. And yes, that was despite being fixed twice by Nintendo, then twice by me. This is earth shuddering! What other games are dual-layer... googling... O_o

This is the reason I have not bought Metroid Prime Trilogy yet. If I ever get my Wii's lens cleanse, I'll buy it in a heartbeat.
@Machu-SSBB and Metrod Prime Trilogy are the only dual-layer Wii games.

The first time I loaded up the game, the fan was making a terribly loud noise, almost as loud as an Xbox 360. I went back to the Wii menu, ejected the disc, put it back in, and re-loaded the game, and it worked (and sounded) normally then. Hopefully that won't happen again. Sorry for you guys who might not be able to load the game at all, it's such a shame that dual-layered Wii games can have this problem. It's such an awesome compilation that it deserves to be in every Wii owner's collection.

Serves me right for smoking I guess, doh! And you Supersonic, shame on you!!

I shall not be beaten, time to get the tri-wing out. I may well destroy my Wii cos i wanna play a game I already have, many times. Testament to Prime that is.

I may sound cheerful but omg I'm ******! Just gonna have to wait and see. :S

I'm sorry some of you guys are having trouble with dual layered discs. Here's a tip, after you clean your system with the lens cleaner, of course: dust off your Wii regularly, like once a week. You see, dust collects on the edges of the disc drive and when you put a disc in, that dust hitches a ride on into where the lens is and because duel layerd disc are so tightly encoded, it's harder for the laser to read it if there is any excessive dust on the disc and/or lens. I have a launch Wii and I always make sure to keep it dust free, along with all my other electronics, and I've never had to deal with the system not reading the software.

Future Wii purchases:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid: Other M
Zelda Wii
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Sin and Punishment 2

Thanks for the advice Rapidash6. I'll try to remember to clean it regularly.
