Topic: Wii U torrents to USB?

I was thinking if was possible to buy a game, then download it's files from a torrent, followed by putting it onto a USB stick?
I was looking at a game like Resident evil and it's huge file size, I've had way too many corrupted downloads via Nintendo's download service, to the point where I'm afraid to downloading anything that's over a gig.

Unlike Steam etc, Nintendo downloads literally corrupts. torrents and Steam has integrity checks at least.

Can anyone make sense of this?

How is your stuff corrupting? Could you possibly go into more detail? Your suggested fix isn't exactly viable, so you're goning to have to figure something else out.

For instance download goes to 95%, then skips to the installation screen where it says "game failed to install, data corrupted" or something like that. after which the download restarts from 0%

I've had this happen way too many times to me before.

corupted download? whatever dude. no need to troll. the only time i have ever had a problem was on christmas day when everyone had a problem. on top of that.....well....what you are telling us makes no sense. it's like you do not own a wii u and have never downloded a game on the system before.

Actually, this is kinda smart. But if you let stuff be installed via USB, that just leaves a door open for exploits and hacks. Nintendo, or just a lot of companies in general, should distribute their software via bittorrent. It's slowly getting away from being associated strictly with piracy, companies need to wake up and embrace the future.

edit: Also, OP, if your WiFi is being spotty, try getting a USB to Ethernet dongle and using a wired connection with your Wii U. Mine Wii U's internet was spotty until I tried a wired connection.

Do you at least realize that it's basically impossible to have a corruptive download from Nintendo? This is an issue that's happening, because of something on your end.

EDIT: Also, no offense, but suggesting a torrent kind of implies that you're messing with things you probably shouldn't be.

Don't forget to call that guy a troll too.

I've seen that screen way too many times, it also isn't the wi-fi, when I lose connection I can eventually just resume later. The files corrupt even when the internet connection is working 100%

Why on earth the files try to install in the first place when you can clearly see they not yet 100% is above me....

Do you live in a rural area or something? Your bandwidth sounds like some of it is closed, or something. That's the only reason I can think of why your download thinks it's complete at 95%.

HSUPA 8Mbit speed approximately. Keep switching between two ISP's, both give same problem.
Rural is close way of describing it, I'm from South Africa

@SCAR392 Like I said above, torrents do not equal piracy. Open your eyes a little, just because something can be used for something bad, doesn't mean it's used exclusively for something bad.

Torrents aren't exactly what they always make themselves out to be. I get that torrents aren't always bad. I could give you a torrent of said file I created in Autodesk. I'm not stupid, so please don't assume so.

EDIT: The only way he'd get a torrent version is if someone else ripped the file. Do you see how his suggestion makes no sense?

But we are not talking about some user created file we are talking about a game file that someone would have to illegally rip to upload so what @SCAR392 said is perfectly justified.

Again, like I said above, companies need to utilize bittorrent to distribute their files. It would lessen the strain on their servers and increase download speed. As in, Nintendo or Capcom or whoever, upload the data for Resident Evil to a few seeders, those seeders distribute the data to people who bought the game. Then the people who bought the game will seed as well and speed up downloads for everyone. You guys automatically assume if you're torrenting a game, it's illegal. Blizzard distributes games via torrent. Completely legal.

There's no reason why they couldn't build in some sort of torrent system into their download service. It wouldn't make much sense on a portable console but on a home console it makes a whole lot of sense. Would certainly fix a lot of the problems Nintendo have been facing recently and would mean that your downloads always max out your connection.

However when the OP says torrents it's fairly safe to assume we're not talking a legal distribution of games here. Lets not kid ourselves here....

I've yet to use an external drive for a download on my Wii U, so I'm not sure, but wouldn't it function the same as downloading a game to your 3ds' SD card and then copying the files to your PC? It's drag and drop, hardly ripping.

It makes perfect sense, it's something I've wanted to do before for other services:
The topic poster cannot get the file by regular means due to technical issues, so the poster wants to download it from a torrent. Because the Wii U download keeps corrupting, they would be able to download the torrent then get the client to check the files to make sure they downloaded accurately. Then they want to move the files to the correct directory on their external hard drive and play the game from there.

So in answer to poster: Theoretically yes it should work like that (I can't say for certain, but if the Wii U handles files similarly to 3DS then it should). However if you haven't bought the game then it definitely won't work.

edit: here is an example scenario for those trying to understand: you want to download an 8GB file, 25kb/s download rate, computer has to be shut down every 12 hours. Using Direct download won't be possible unless you stop and resume it before shut down, but there is no guarantee it will start up again on resume or be download properly at the end. So you use a torrent client to get your file, pause it every 12 hours and eventually get it.

I would love it if more companies began to utilize bittorrents to distribute their software, but until they do, it is illegal to rip and distribute protected files. Even if you were up for some no-good-nicking, I don't think this is possible. Nintendo's software isn't compatible with torrents.

Try calling Nintendo directly to see if they have any ideas.

To be honest, you're the only user I've seen here with corrupted downloads. Maybe it is on your end.

Also, I don't see how torrents will work with a different system especially considering you'd have to buy it through Wii U's eShop

I agree with the pro torrent argument. I usually choose it over direct download. Every version of Linux I've downloaded has been the torrent over direct download.

That said, there are advantages to doing this on PC, whereas the way the downloads are handled on Wii U are pretty much fool proof. The downloads can even be suspended. And if you did use a torrent instead, I'm not even sure how you would install it. I agree with others here, that the problem has to be on your end. Have you contacted customer service? Nintendo's customer service is second to none on consoles.
