@Peach64
You did your math wrong in your example. It would mean they took customers away from ASDA, then added more sales on top of that.
The example you gave to try and prove Wii U wasn't doing well, actually proved it was doing better than it was.
Which bit is wrong? 150 people buying Wii U's daily. 130 of them were at Asda when they were the cheapest, 20 at Amazon. Next day, Amazon become the cheapest, so Asda's 130 switch over, Amazon retain their 20... 150?
I can see I'm annoying a lot of people with my 'negativity'. I'll keep repeating this. I think the E3 announcements will give sales a real spike, and the games for the second half of the year will keep sales up. I AM positive about the Wii U's future, but I think this story is ridiculous. I could be wrong, maybe every retailer has suddenly seen a huge spike in Wii U sales, but there's no evidence that even one retailer is shifting a ton of Wii hardware, just that one is selling a lot more than they were last week. Most people on this community have convinced themselves that Xbox One has bombed and Wii U has won, when this could all amount to a few people buying from one retailer instead of another. Xbox One is the most wished for item on Amazon US and UK, so I don't think most people hate it as much as you all think.
@Peach64
875% of 20 is 175, so they're getting 45(25 combined) more sales than ASDA did. Then ASDA is assumingly still selling consoles that get bought. There are still more people buying consoles than before, but people are still buying consoles from ASDA, correct?
This is only going off of your numbers BTW.
Only ardent fanboys believe the Xbone announcement has positively effected WiiU sales and they're jumping on it since it's the first good news they've heard about the WiiU since it was released.
It's 2013, get over your system loyalties already. I bet you don't defend your.microwave this much, do you?

I've seen this news reported on general technology sites as news. So it's not just "fanboys". Fact is the PS3 @ E3 2006 style video mocking the XBox One event has 5.4Million views. I think that should say something about how well it was received.
The original article is missing some facts to the point that it's almost not really news but that doesn't mean that everyone rebutting it is entirely correct or that the people who assumed it was true are desperate fanboys. It certainly doesn't mean that the increase in sales from Amazon UK is bad news

News site are reporting it for hits. They always play off fanboys to get more hits because it brings in the money.
I will say, it's a funny spin on the facts but that's all it is, a spin.
Nobody is saying it's bad news. I'm glad the WiiU is seemingly selling more. I own one and I want to see it get the best support possible.
Spin suggests they intended to make this story about it. I'm fairly sure that most sites reporting this weren't aware that there was a sale. Same is probably true for the vast majority of positive posts in this thread.
It probably made headlines more for the interesting timing than the winning hits from the fanboys. Remember that bad news sells, this wouldn't have been as big a thing as it was if it didn't include a chance to laugh at the XBone

... so you're arguing against a statistic. <steeples fingers and reclines in chair>
Tell me more.

I reckon most sites were well aware of the sale, some may have purposefully omitted that detail to make the story more interesting.
I agree, if not for the timing, this wouldn't be such a big story. On the face of things, "Xbone announced, WiiU sales up 800%", it's funny. I laughed quite heartedly at the headline when I first saw it.
If there was no sale I'm betting the WiiU sales wouldn't have increased at all post-Xbone announcement.
That's the point I'm trying to get across.
Likewise, if the sale was a week before the Xbone announcement the sales would have been similar.

And how is the year relevant? Do all people just use the year as an excuse for everything now? "Dude, don't eat cereal, it's 2013!" or "You still sleep? It's 2013, get over it." >.<

"Welcome to the 90s!" - said sarcastically to every parent during the 90s
Hmm, well I don't know about trends or anything but the Xbox One reveal definitely made me more enthusiastic for the Wii U. I was planning to pick one up regardless once some more Nintendo titles dropped but I found the news about the Xbone so uninspiring that I just said to heck with it and picked the Wii U up early.
I've been really liking it so far. New Super Mario Bros U. is delightful
Where's the KABOOM?! There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM! sigh delays...delays...

I would take you up on that bet any day. You would make me a rich man. If you believe Wii U sales weren't influenced in any way by the Xbone reveal, you, sir, are the "fanboy" term that you love to fling around these internets. But what about that sale? Yes, I agree - the sale was probably responsible for most of that spike in consumer interest, but what leads me to believe that the Xbone announcement had some impact was that previous sales of the Wii U system did not generate anywhere near this level of a jump. It is quite obvious that the reveal played some part in making up the minds of a good number of "on the fence" gamers. I, for one, know that I was intrigued by the next Xbox and wanted to see what Microsoft had to offer. I was seriously considering a purchase. But the Kinect requirement, 24-hour online check-in, and used game fee just feels a bit too Big Brother for me. You can have your cloud - I'll stick with the hard drive in my living room, thank you very much.
Use your head and think a little. It's not being a "fanboy" to celebrate an evening out of the market. Do you really want to be a gamer where your choice is only Microsoft (console AND PC because of Windows) or Sony... and that's it? I know I don't, and I sure believe that many others agree with me.
