Topic: Wii U eShop Download Codes

Does anyone know what the plans are for these? The area to enter them is featured quite prominently in the eShop but I haven't seen them for sale anywhere. In fact I haven't heard anything about them being used yet, except for the Amazon mess-up. I'd quite happily shop around to get a good deal on a download code rather than a disc...

The Digital Deluxe Promotion uses them right now.

If you have the Deluxe Wii U bundle, you'll gain points for every game you purchase.

When you get 500 points, you'll get $5 credit for the shop. To get the $5, you'll get a download code.
In the near future, I can see Club Nintendo rewards and whatnot being used for it.

Ah, OK. I was assuming you could/would be able to buy a code to download a game. Similar to the code used for the Amazon mess-up referenced above.

Somehow, to me, "download code" means a code to download something. I didn't equate it with the voucher code, for some reason I assumed that would come under the adding funds to your account section.

I keep forgetting they called it the "Deluxe" in NA. I wonder why they chose to have two different model names?

My apologies, I forgot this is a worldwide forum.

No worries, it was just a point of interest, not real confusion!

3DS eShop codes work for it in NA, so you MIGHT be able to use those for now. There's seriously no Wii U/3DS prepaid cards there yet?

There are eShop cards available, but I believe you'll go to "Add Funds" rather than using the "Download Code" tab on the front page.

As I said, "redeem download code" I understood differently to this and it does seem odd to have that and the "add funds" section. Sounds like I had it all wrong though (even if the Amazon debacle I keep mentioning proves it's possible to enter a code to download a game).

DLC code refers to using a code created to download a specific game or other content without adding funds, like claiming a VC game off Club Nintendo and such. I've done the same thing recently too, typing in a funds card into the download code. It said, 'This is a 3DS funds card, and cannot be redeemed'. So ya, add funds tab counts as prepaid card when in asks to use credit/debit, or redeem prepaid card. I think they're going to start selling DLC codes soon though. I know they sold specific codes to download NSMB.2, Pushmo, etc, but they don't do that very much. I wish they would though, because there's no tax for those. $39.99 for NSMB.2, you get 1¢ back in change.

I don't know what the tax would be like over here but I'd be more than happy to shop around for a decent download price instead of having to choose between the Nintendo eShop price and a physical disc. At least I understood it correctly: the fact that the box is so prominent on the eShop (at least over here) would suggest that it's coming soon, I guess.

Maybe... Maybe that will be their way of getting ZombiU downloadable without having to wait for the rated 'M' timeframe on the eShop 'after bedtime'. Just buy and claim the ZombiU DLC code and bypass the timeframe limit. I could see that, or going retail with the codes. Who knows really, only time will tell.

Just acquired my first dowload code. Amazingly, it seems that they're subject to the same time restrictions as eShop purchases in the EU.
