Topic: Why do gamer's either exaggerate Nintendo's flaws, or over-defend them?

Posts 1 to 20 of 23

TheMisterManGuy

Whenever Nintendo makes a mistake, many gamers come out and exaggerate it to death, making it out to be worse than it really is. At the same time, many die-hard Nintendo fans come and whiteknight the living hell out of it thinking Nintendo is perfect and can do no wrong. Look, I'm a Nintendo fan, but even I know they screw up

*Lackluster online
*Lackluster 3rd party efforts
*Lackluster marketing
*Not trying to be competitive
*Being copyright Nazi's to an extent
*Lack of proper Gamepad justification
*Stubbornness to modernize
*Region Locking

They put out great games, but they also make stupid decisions. It's the way bushiness works. Yet die-hard Nintendo fans try and defend every one of these aforementioned flaws, while the others just exaggerate all of them and even complain about things that are either hypocritical, or aren't even flaws to begin with. Why is Nintendo seemingly the only company who has people like this?

Because for people to argue/debate, it takes two sides.

One side criticizing, and the other defending.

Thanks for this enlightening thread.

They arn't I can be critical on all 3 big companies, pc gaming, and other things. Theres nothing wrong with being critical especially when its needed.

Because this is the internet and the most vocal people are also the most sensational.

True, criticism is a good thing. The problem is when people go overboard with it to the point of mindless hating. Complaining about things that aren't really issues or making some things worse than they really are.

You've never heard anybody with the "Nintendo is a company, of course they want to make money, of course not everyone in the company fully understands the gaming market. Yes they can be unadaptive, a quality that would make any other company fizzle, but their development team is really good, and that's why I keep playing their games?" I know a lot of people with that opinion.

Got married.

That reminds me of the great Tomodachi Life Debate here with the bug fix. So heated the admins disable comments on it and the game haven't been release oversea yet (at the time).

It is always interesting to see the two extremes on here. I admit I've been on the "hating" side a couple times, but it was usually in response to overly defensive people that will try and justify every silly decision Nintendo makes.

It is genuinely a tiny fraction of either home console / pc or mobile.

They do it with everyone and everything. Nintendo is by far not the only example.
The problem is that people not into Nintendo see them and their fanbase as the "losers" of this generation, while Nintendo fans see themselves as the "underdogs". This back-and-forth bashing happens all the time, to every part of the gaming community (Microsoft with XBOX, Sony with VITA, Nintendo with WiiU, PC with lazy ports, mobiles with the abundance of apps).
People often try to justify their purchases, and some go to great lengths to feel better about it, despite being a completely unnecessary notion. They can't be happy about their stuff without outside confirmation/approval, which has become a bigger issue do to the increasing brand awareness. This not only crosses the line between criticism and hating, it also causes unneeded tension everywhere.

I don't think this is necessarily true. Many on here see themselves as more sophisticated than people who play other consoles, looking down on any game or product that doesn't have 'Nintendo' stamped on it. They don't see themselves as being underdogs, they see themselves as being superior.

ive been wondering this myself and got a topic locked for it, though it wasnt perfectly written and it was longer than most articles so i guess i had it coming. when it comes to haters, there are some for everything, some people just want to watch the world burn. i see them everywhere in Sony, PC, Xbox and Nintendo communities. they all use different tactics, but they all seek to bring something they dont like down to the ground. its nothing new and i do feel that each console manufacturer gets their unfair share. besides, everyone knows haters are full of sh*t, nobody except other haters takes them seriously and i think they should just be ignored.

when it comes to white knights however, i do actually believe Nintendo has the majority. i rarely see Nintendo fans act critically towards Nintendo, not to the same extent i see for other systems. its not rare to hear claims that 3rd parties hate Nintendo or are afraid of them and thats why Wii U 3rd party support is bad. i dont think i have seen any Nintendo fan suggest that Nintendo may be to blame, and they surely werent well received if they did. it does feel like whenever somebody tries to initiate a serious talk about the Wii U`s struggles like 3rd party, specs, sales, whatever. there are always a handful of Nintendo fans trying to stop the conversation, not wanting them to be discussed. then there is the victim mentality, the idea that Nintendo is a victim and everyone else are perpetrators, 3rd parties failed the Wii U, Gamers failed the Wii U. i cant stand victim mentality, its almost always just an excuse. Wii U isnt getting low 3rd party support because 3rd parties want to kill Nintendo, its not getting 3rd parties because its less powerful, uses a different architecture and has sold less. easy as that. surprisingly however, in my experience, most of the internet is actually quite reasonable. when i went out looking for fanboys just now on articles that discussed consoles objectively(to try and compare how many nintendo fanboys there were against anti-nintendo fanboys), i found almost none of neither. they mostly stay on sites that cater to a single brand, maybe i just need to spend less time on Miiverse and Wiiudaily

This happens anytime you get something that someone feels strongly about. I see the same on sony and microsoft sites.

Because no matter if you support a sports team, TV show, band, religion, political party, brand of cola, diet or vapid reality star, the human brain has to gloss over all the negatives and focus on the positives. And in turn it's human nature to disregard any opposition in how to live your life and put down the alternatives. Because deep down we all want to feel like were winners and the horse were backing is better than the rest. Let them have their beliefs and quietly remember that it's all nonsense and you are in fact the only person in the world with immaculate taste and judgement.

That's what I was trying to say, though I guess underdog isn't the most fitting term. Elitists might be more fitting.

Simple answer seems to be most people over attack or over defend because they want to do some damage. If you're posting "ya i think nintendo is okay sometimes" or "yeah i like nintendo, they put out some solid stuff", you're going to get ignored and not involved in the conversation because you're not appearing passionate or fanboyish enough. Now if you say THE WIIU IS KILLING NINTENDO or THE 3DS SELLS MORE THAN ALL THE OTHER SYSTEMS AND IS THE LEADING SYSTEM IN SALES THIS GEN SO FAR then people are going to notice and get mad or excited and respond. Who wants a weak debate of "ya ninty is fine idc either way cuz its not like it rly matters and they got lots of $$$ to survive this gen lolol"
