Well, not really...but I have 10GB of space left, and I'm getting X...and the packs are 15GB total. (I'm not removing Splatoon/Pikmin 3, lol) I'm not wanting to get an external hard drive though...do those USB flash drives work? Is it possible to grab one of those instead? (I have one but I think it doesn't have much...)

I used a 32 gig flash for six months with no problems. I eventually upgraded to a 500 gig drive. It sould be fine however I would use a name brand.

Alright, hopefully I can get one some time soon. (the current one I have only has 512MB)
Kinda sucks that we can't use SD cards, I never use Wii Mode anymore anyways...

Yeah, flash drives do work good for dlc and extra content, but I wouldn't recommend using it to play games stored on it.

If only the Wii U could read dual layered Blu-Ray discs. Oh wait, it can't. Kinda have to put the extra packs somewhere.

USB drives work fine. I used a 16gb drive for two years, and no issues. I recently upgraded to a 32gb drive cause I ran out of room, but also to have a fresh drive just in case.

Don't Playstation and Xbox also install similar patches to make games run faster?

@Megumi
I wanted to go for an external drive, but I prefer physical games, at least the ones that are available in that format. If you find a cheap one, then go for it.

I usually go for physical too, but I'll sometimes nab digital. Like I said I do have Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD digitally. (and Splatoon)
So I dunno. xD

Do you have 10gb available in your system memory?

Depending on what else you have, a 32gb drive should allow you to download the packs if you transfer anything else to it.

I used to use a thumb drive until one day it just stopped working. If you can afford a HD, then go for it.

If you do go for a USB drive, get a good brand at least. The 32gb drive I currently have has not given me any issues.

I would go for an external drive, but there would be so much space left unused.

I'm having the same problem cause of XCX. Going to need to get an external drive. 32gb was low when the Wii U first came out and it's even harder to believe the Wii U basic was 8gb. It feel a bit late now, but they really should have made a higher capacity Wii U. I guess external works fine, but it doesn't feel as nice.

Currently Playing: SMITE, ROTTR, Halo 5: Guardians (XB1), Xenoblade Chronicles X (WiiU), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 2 (3DS)

External drive all the way.It might be a bit of an outlay at first but once it's bought you don't need worry about it no more.A USB drive may be cheaper in the short term but it may not last or give you problems in the future, they aren't recommended after all. With the Xmas sales coming up surely you'll be able to get a good deal on one.

@DekuOnion: Ideally the Wii U would have been 300gb+ but if it's going to cost $100 more I don't see the point, better to give consumers the cheaper option.I bought the 8gb model, not because I couldn't afford the 32gb,I just preferred to use the money saved to buy a 500gb drive, something I would still have needed to get anyway It might not be "as nice" but it's only an extra cable coming out the back, the HD can be easily hidden out of site.

Well flash is both faster and cheaper than it was when the Wii U launched. If they were to do the same spec now you'd expect about twice the storage to be about the same price. A price which would be still quite a bit less than any HDD, especially the smaller amount.

FWIW, you're not forced to download any of the packs. They're there only for the speed boost.
