What would be considered a flop for Zelda U? Presuming it releases on one system (the Wii U obviously) it'll have at best let's say around 14-15 million install base, with those figures, if it sold 3-4 million that would be very, very good in my opinion and it has every chance of doing that as a big amount of Nintendo's biggest Wii U games have easily sold multi-millions.
Of course we have to bring NX into the equation, and how that will impact sales is anyone's guess at this point, as we have noting to go on to say if the NX will be popular or not, if it will be the same game or a 'definitive edition' that could make people double-dip (think The Last of Us) or if it could cannibalise the Wii U's sales if it is released simultaneously on both systems and it is way better on NX. Twilight Princess released on a system with a 20+ million install base and on the second fastest selling console ever, and IIRC sold well over 10 million, though Skyward Sword was reported to be the fastest selling Zelda game ever in its first week on sale, so I don't see how anyone can draw conclusions at this point, we have barely any information to go on.
Lol as if Zelda U will be a flop. It might end up being financially unprofitable if they don't release on the NX or if they DO but the NX does badly. But it's definitely not going to sell badly on the Wii U. It'll arguably be the biggest game on the system and it'll almost definitely be the last big one. People are going to pay attention!
Some sales info for those who are interested; Twilight Princess sold around 420,000 copies in the US during its first week, according to VGChartz. That's more than three times higher than Wind Waker in its first week. TPHD's first week is comparable to Smash Bros Wii U in the US. Smash sold more than 2.5 million copies in the US to date and reached almost 5 million copies sold worldwide. 5 million is a stretch for TPHD I think, but it is most definitely another million seller. If Europe and Japan follow with strong sales, it'll likely end up being one of the best selling games on the Wii U.
I saw this. 670K first week according to VGChartz (which is usually vaguely accurate, given around a 10% error margin). Incredibly impressive US sales. Average Europe and Japan sales.
670K is comparable to the launch of a new AAA game so they'll be surely making some serious profit on this!
@Dezzy: I don't think Zelda games are calculated to make profit on one single console release anymore. The development times for a Zelda game nowadays are almost longer than a console cycle, so Nintendo probably looks at profitability during 2 or even 3 console generations.
Having said that, I'm very glad that I stopped so soon to play TP/Wii some year ago, and that TP:HD now has been made. It's such a HUGE gaming difference!
@jariw:
I think it was probably originally intended to make profit on a single console release. Probably not at this point though. My guess is that when they decided to delay it for an extra year, they also decided it'd be an NX launch title.
Anyone else notice a huge slowdown and frame rate drop in the room of the first dungeon boss after it is defeated? Go down to the water and run left to right to let the background rotate around - very sluggish, at least it is on my game/system. Did anyone else have this problem, or did you all just grab the heart container and warp out like I was supposed to?

@mjharper: There are some known frame rate issues when there are mist or other alpha blending things going on. Was there anything like that in that scene?
What was the first boss - the cursed monkey? But it wasn't any water there?
The final boss of that dungeon - you mentioned the mini-boss. From what I experienced, the performance issues are worse there than at the woods. I'll go back and check again tonight.

One theory posed by a writer on Gamefaqs who's having the same issue is because of playing off-TV versus on. I'll also test that theory this evening.

I've seen reports from some users about huge frame rate issues when playing off-TV. (This is a game that I personally don't understand why anyone would like to play off-TV.)

I always use Off-TV when possible since I often play in bed or don't want to switch on the TV. However, it is strange that the game supposedly has frame rate issues in 480p but not in 1080p.

The game is still being rendered at 1080p when you are playing Off-TV, it is just being displayed at 480p. I have noticed some framerate issues in other games when I move the GamePad slightly too far. Mostly when I am changing seats or something while playing Off-TV play and I get near the edge of the acceptable distance.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
@TheSuperStarSaga: It was touched up. The music is now uncompressed, mixed for 5.1 and with quite a bit of ambience. No re-orchestration, but a huge difference in sound quality.
@Chandlero: Not bothering to turn the TV to play a 1080p remake with highly detailed textures on a 480p sounds like a bad choice to me. The only visible image quality difference to the Wii version would be the 24-bit colors and the true alpha.
I was able to verify the issues I was having were due to playing on the Gamepad. I prefer to play on the TV, but having the system installed in the living room where everyone else in the family is means the off-TV function gets used quite a bit.

Generally the same here, no off tv play means I would get less chance to play.
Switch games list,
Legend of Zelda BotW, Human resource machine, NBA Playgrounds, Street Fighter 2, Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips, Overcooked, World of Goo.
