I completed the game last night. Such a HUGE difference to my short try on the Wii version some year ago. Amazing gaming experience, and I really enjoyed the whole ride, even though the dungeons were a bit on the easy side. Midna has become a huge favorite, and I really appreciate that Midna kept her comments in style to the very end. And seeing the epilogue with the HD texture remakes was a really great showcase of all the work they have done on TP:HD.

Here are some comparisons between WW:HD and TP:HD:
WW:HD has a high consistent graphical quality, while TP:HD is much more uneven. The best-looking parts in TP:HD beat everything in WW:HD, while the bad-looking parts are below WW:HD standard.

WW:HD has huge issues with object boundaries, and it was very usual in that game that characters can partly walk into a wall. That kind of issues was very rare in TP:HD.

Frame rate issues were a big issue for me in WW:HD, since it affected gameplay. I noticed a few (2, I think) times where the frame rate dropped in TP:HD and that was in regions where Link just walked.

There is a bug in TP:HD, where the camera seems to get "stuck" in a wall, which could happen in narrow rooms, and the whole room just started to shake (Waterbed Temple was where I encountered that the most). I never encountered anything similar in WW:HD, even though WW:HD had some annoying repositioning of the camera at times that TP:HD does have.

I think the Gamepad implementation was slightly better in TP:HD than in WW:HD over all. The options for how the game should be controlled are much more functional as well.

This game is a bit rougher around the edges than I remembered. Kinda like wind waker, but worse.

I'm still enjoying it, though.

Anyway, does anyone have a side by side comparison video of the original soundtrack in GC/Wii to the current soundtrack in Twilight Princess HD? I don't know for sure if there is a difference.

I wish someone would make a video like this for Twilight Princess HD:

Well, since Andre hates Twilight Princess, there will be no such comparisons from GameXplain.

If your impression of the Wii/GC version is something like this clip below, there's a huge difference compared to how the Twilight Princess HD sounds. The HD music sounds much more full, and much less "rough". Less compression, so to speak.

After 10 years, I finally beat the game. Boy, I tried to keep my head away from the "tons of spoilers." While I'm one to hate spoilers, but in the end the things that people insinuated sure were lackluster in the end. "Oh, what you do with the beginning of the game really affects how you experience the end." Ummm... does it? Maybe I meta too hard, ergo my expectations are pierced?

@Haiassai: After beating the game some days ago, I think it's somewhat important to root for the home village at the beginning. But not nearly as important as to connect to Midna.

BTW, after beating it, I spent some time gathering all collectibles. Finding and collecting all the 50 stamps was really fun! I was able to find all except 2 (where I need to look it up on the 'net).

Whoever put the words "Amiibo functionality" into Twilight Princess...

Actually, the quick load feature from the wolf Amiibo is quite nifty. A bit redundant, but a nice idea.

... If only it didn't require you to keep the Amiibo out of its box and near your system.

That's exactly what I've noticed. Some parts of TPHD look really really good. Nearly as good as a current gen game. It tends to be the smaller more confined areas as those have higher poly counts.
Then a minute later, you'll look at some of the wider scenery and it drags you straight back to the gamecube era.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

The art direction in this game is really fantastic. Like, look at the tears of light. They have that pretty water drip effect and the bloom-y glow, sure, but they also have a full circle rainbow around them. The same full circle rainbow that rings the four light spirits' cores.

Beyond that I really love the day/night cycle. How the sun paints the landscape is just beautiful, especially around twilight and dawn. Just such subtle warm purple and orange tones. AGH! Game's so pretty it makes me feel things.

It's hard for me to compare off of memory, wish there was a side by side soundtrack video :c

Is it just me or are the area transitions messed up in the port? The music seems to come in and out pretty abruptly...

@Haru17: I haven't noticed this. But now that you've said something, I'll probably notice it first thing from now on when I go from one area to the next.

This port in general seems to be a bit less polished, at least compared to the Wind Waker HD.

Maybe it was a teeny bit rushed?
