Oh, maybe it is just me but the switch style for targeting seems a little broken to me. Get too far from the baddie and you los lose the lock, with hold you don't.
So I made it through the first Tears of Light section and Temple on my Wii version last night. Maybe they get harder or more annoying later, I honestly don't remember since it's been years since I played it, but I don't see what all the fuss is about with the Tears of Light. I just went through the forest, found the bugs, and killed them. You can even see where they are on the map, so I thought it was fun to think "There's one right here! Where is it?" and have to figure out where it could be hiding. I don't even know which ones they would take out, or honestly, why they would.
@Grumblevolcano: I'm sure you are right. I just think if it was that bad I would probably remember it. For example, the one thing I do remember about the game is hating having to find those golden bugs. I never came close to finding them all because it just became too much of a chore and wasn't fun. That's where I think they did a great job with this remake. The lantern that lets you find them in the daylight makes it easier to find them, but if you want the original experience, you simply don't have to use the lantern. I just wish they had done something like that with other aspects of the game rather than forcing you to play with the changes they made. But I understand that would have probably taken a lot of extra work.
Well, it seems I won't be skipping this after all!
My brother (who lives in a bigger city with more options for purchasing video games) just bought the amiibo bundle to play the game the next time he visits us (a couple weeks).
I won't spoil anything but when you get to the 3rd Tears of Light section you'll understand.
Spoilers:
You mean that really nicely designed tour through Lanaryu where you see all of those unique scripted sequences like the interaction to Castle Town, the burning bridge and the battle up Zora's River culminating in a miniboss fight? That utterly tiresome part-of-a-Zelda-game!?
@Sticker: Regarding the soundtrack, it now actually seems that the HD version has an upgraded soundtrack. I read a post on NeoGAF, that the TP:HD version doesn't compress the sound like the Wii version did and instead matches the Brawl version of the TP music tracks. (I quit so early in the Wii version, so I don't remember.)
Here are the different sound versions from that post. TP:HD is quite a huge difference from the Wii version actually. And it's obviously reorchestrated.
@sticker and @jariw, yeah, an uncompressed score makes sense (and is a nice little touch). As wonderful as a re-orchestration would be, I think we also have to keep in mind how much Twilight Princess relies on dynamic music — it's not as simple as just dropping in a new track. Would be quite the undertaking to completely revamp a highly dynamic score.
Anyways, because the word "Zelda" is way more powerful than my self-control, I bit the bullet last night. I was one among the many underwhelmed by TPHD's original reveal, but now that I've played it on a 1080p screen, consider me impressed. Some of the geometry certainly shows its age, but overall, the game has a wonderfully clean look to it. It's crystal clear, has a nice and neat anti-aliasing solution, and the textures are largely sharp. I've also noticed some depth of field that is either new or much improved, which retains the original game's gauzy look without dipping into its much-maligned blurriness. I have to admit that I've spent a whole lot of time spinning the camera and peeking around in first-person, and will likely spend even more time taking screen captures.
I've gotten as far as completing the third light collecting quest, and so far I'm liking it. This game looks so much better in HD. My only complaint is that the movement controls while riding Epona feel really stiff. Does anyone else feel this way, or is it just me?
Yea it's almost like there's a slight delay when I press the button, but everything else is perfectly responsive. I don't remember ever having that problem on the Gamecube version. I wonder if it was intentional on Nintendo's part.
