I posted this under other gaming but, holy crap, this game is actually trying to come to the eShop. It supports the Gamecube adapter. They're targeting a Oct. 2015-February 2016 release.
Don't bring in wave dashing!
Now we'll never hear the end of it.
Aside from that, we need the explosion thing from the official games makes it easier to tell when you've been KO'd.
And voice acting.
Def voice acting (just grunts are fine).
Some interesting tidbits about the gameplay from the interview. This really has me intrigued. As far as fighting engine's go, it really seems surprisngly pretty different from Smash Bros.
1- Free Float! All characters can float around similar to Peach, or Mewtwo from SSBB Project M. It allows for a unique air combo game!
2- Wake-up Grab: To improve options for counter-play, a grounded enemy has the option to grab upon wake-up!
3- Air Grab: All characters have three standard air grabs: Up, Side, and Down!
4- Spell Cards: Touhou is at it's core a Bullet Hell shooter, and we wanted to make sure that aspect of it was present in this derivative game. However, it is incorporated in a way that character balance in the game still takes priority unlike Smash Bros Brawl's "Final Smash" mechanic which left certain characters with major advantages over others randomly. You have to charge your "Final Smash" and you can be interrupted during that period. You can only use it once and then it's gone for the rest of the match.
5- Overwhelm, when 2 characters grab each other at the same time they will struggle, the winner of the struggle busts out a very powerful attack.
Keep in mind everyone the game doesn't come out until 2016. A whole year. There is a boat load of time for visual and mechanic improvements. I agree it looks very rough but what do you expect this early lol.

In addition to what you just said, development supposedly started a mere 4 months ago.
As long as it doesn't use any copyrighted material, it shouldn't have trouble getting on the eShop. It doesn't seem to be using any actual SSB assets and as for Touhou, ZUN has clarified that he's OK with derivative works as long as they attribute him as the original creator, don't replicate any text, and seek his permission to commercialize it. It's doujin-soft of doujin-soft, so there aren't really any legal hurdles.
I haven't played any Touhou games before, but I hear about them all the time. I never really understood why they're so loved; are they any different than your typical shoot-em-up?

A few reasons, I guess.
1) The entire cast is cute anime girls. Makes it a smorgasbord for derivative works and fan art. Kind of like Kantai Collection or Love Live.
2) The studio that makes it is literally just one person, and he's a pretty endearing dude.
3) And yeah, the higher difficulties are pretty insane.

I've never played Touhou either. Which is weird since SHMUPs are one of my top favorite genres. Just never felt like trying it. The amount of fan content the series has though is just staggering.
Looks pretty good. Though, for some reason, this makes me angered on the inside.
I agree.
I honestly don't care, but I do feel anger or some sort of jealousy inside me. Must be because, as a massive Smash fan, I don't like any sort of copies of Smash. I just want people to enjoy the main source because that's what the original idea is made. I mean this project wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for Smash in the first place. I sound like a bit of a jerk.
Though, someone loving Smash Bros a lot and making their thing with Touhou. In general, I don't like the look of this. But I don't care where it goes.
On the game website, the first thing the developer wrote about is Super Smash Bros. Melee and how it inspired him to make this game.So people that don't know Smash can just copy-paste on Google the words "Super Smash Bros. Melee".
You want anime-ish characters in Smash? Then go play Smash 4 (Marth, Lucina, Ike, Robin, Shulk, Pit, Palutena, Dark Pit).
You want Melee? Then go play Melee.
You want even MORE Melee? Then go play Project M.
This is useless, pointless, unnecessary, redundant, and worthless IMO.
