@WaveBoy Honestly, what do you expect when it comes to changing the game radically? Changing the game radically could go terribly wrong. I know Greninja was out of the blue and a somewhat strange choice, but I think he fits. I'd much rather they give the space to him over someone like Pac-man or Mii's, at least Greninja has what appear to be a pretty cool and visually appealing skill set. He's basically just a Ninja which is a class that SSB has been lacking.. (I don't count Sheik as a Ninja, she's reminds me more of an Assassin type character.)
Though I do agree that they are kind of overdoing it with Pokemon, but it is an endless supply of potential candidates for Smash and Nintendo only has so many IP's. Personally, I'd rather see Simon Belmont or Bomber-Man, but sadly I just don't see that happening.
That new pokemon at the end? Really?....What a waste of character space.
I know, right? If they really needed to add a new Pokemon, they should have at least gone with one of the absurdly dumb ones like the one that is literally just a sword.
tbh, I have no idea why people would play a fighting game on 3DS unless it was specifically made for 3DS and only 3DS. I mean this is a little but still...
I've actually heard people say "nobody is going to buy the Wii U version now". The 3DS version might be decent (and I might even pick it up) but anyone serious about playing Smash Bros. is going to go for the Wii U version.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
I don't think there are too many Pokemon characters. They're all fairly different characters and I don't think that we should necessarily expect more unannounced ones. So far there are more Mario characters, excluding Yoshi, and the same amount of Zelda characters confirmed.
I don't think that they're leaning on Pokemon too much. Especially when Pokemon is their second biggest franchise behind Mario. A Franchise that has always been about the portable games. Makes sense that the first Smash to appear on the 3DS has a decent roster of Pokemon characters.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

Most of the people I've heard saying this have talked about some phantom group of people that isn't them. That they'll get the Wii U version, would prefer the Wii U version and are probably getting both now but "those other people" will ignore the Wii U version entirely because there's a portable version. Game forum logic.
People need to learn that when their guess of what other people will do runs counter to what they know they'll do it's probably wrong.

I can't really complain too much that it isn't too innovative. Yeah, Wii U could certainly use some more of those titles (not that anyone would buy anything that WONDERFUL ), but Smash Bros is doing exactly what I want, doesn't get sequels often, and has enough creative ideas to feel worthy of a full sequel beyond just stage and character changes (the new 3DS mode, custom moves and the intentional casual vs. tourney divide for online modes). By fighting game standards that's like Mario 64 to Galaxy.

You're right, and that's why it makes sense for Nintendo to release the 3DS version first. There's no question that it is going to be the "worse" version, for lack of a better term. If both versions were released at the same time, many people wouldn't even consider the 3DS version. By releasing the 3DS one first, they are essentially baiting people to buy it. And that won't cut down much (if at all) on the Wii U version sales when it's released half a year later. Sort of a brilliant move on Nintendo's part when I think about it.
I planned on getting both anyway but this just increases those chances since they're releasing at different times. definitely happy to see the for fun and for srsbznz modes

Yup.. this actually insured that I'll be getting the 3DS version now. I didn't plan to if they released side by side, but now since it appears there's a decent gap, I'll be buying 3DS SSB when it releases. I'm sure the Wii U will have an exclusive mode or two as well. They want to make it as appealing as possible so people will NEED it on both consoles.
I intend to get both versions nonetheless, so at least this way it'll space it out a bit. I'm curious as to how the 3DS version will play compared to the others.
Kind of grumbled about there being more Pokemon characters. I'd trade them all just to get Mewtwo back in the games.
I'm still hopeful for some more variety though from other franchises. F-Zero and Metroid could use some loving. Captain Falcon and Samus have just been by themselves since the N64. I'd be happy with the addition of Samurai Goro and Ridley.
I don't think this was really worth 39 minutes (too much time wasted on already revealed info and online features), but there were a few interesting reveals. Primarily Charizard and Greninja, Smash Run, and customizable movesets.

Zero Suit samus borrowed Bayonettas shoes and Noe I want another metroid game with ZSS in it.
So far I've only played Metroid, Metroid Fusion and the Prime series.. I don't really recall the Zero Suite being integral to any of them, at least for the main games, is there a Metroid game where you actually playthrough/use the Zero Suit in part of the story? The shoes though definitely shouted Bayonetta. I'd be lying if I said that didn't make me want to play ZSS even more.

Metroid Zero Mission was the first appearance of Zero Suit Samus.
Worth playing if you can find it. Great game.

Hopefully they release that on VC, I just beat Fusion the other day and loved it. It actually felt like a survival horror.. great atmosphere and sound effects, excellent boss battles. Much better than the original Metroid. I haven't played Super Metroid, but I have a feeling I'd like Fusion more.. I definitely want to get Zero Mission though.
On topic.. this direct has got much more hyped than I was previously to the game. I think it might be my most anticipated game now. I'll be getting the 3DS version but I can't wait for Wii U.. it just looks so good. I can't wait to here/see what exclusives modes it gets and the integration it has with the 3DS. It's nice that they're changing the transformations, too. I was psyched to see Zelda's Golem move.. seeing as I really enjoyed Spirit Tracks. ZSS looks amazing, as well..
Also, I'm surprised to see people wanting/expecting Samurai Goroh from F-Zero as the second rep. I never realized he was so popular... I mean, if I was to choose another F-Zero rep it'd either be Black Bull or Pico.. they just seem like much more interesting characters, lol.

I'd definitely play Zero Mission before Super Metroid, since Zero Mission is basically Super Metroid Easy Mode.
