One of the best Nintendo Directs IMO.

Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

Along with the rest of the mainstays like Ness announced, my unrealistic wishlist of character reveals:

  • Lucina as alt costume for Marth
  • Tharja or Micaiah
  • Shadow the Hedgehog
  • Lloyd Irving
  • Shanoa
  • Cecil
  • Kain

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

@Moorpheel yes and it had an added part to it. And it has a map! (I can not get into Metroid... 1 btw)

I'm in agreement, somewhat. I've always felt the series was a bit overrated; it's fun, sure, and I'll probably pick it up at launch, but it's not mind-blowing like the way some people treat it.

How many characters do you think will be in this game? There were 35 in brawl(39 including transformations/Pokemon trainer). We currently have 29 confirmed and I am pretty sure all smash 64 veterans will return so that is 32.

(My thoughts) I think that Wario, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers and Meta Knight have a very good chance at staying so 36. Game & Watch May also stay in as well, but I think ROB and Ike could go so 37/38. And either Falco or Wolf would stay (only one since they are kind of similar to Fox) and Lucas may possibly go as well. So we could have around 40 in this one plus another newcomer or 2.

As for characters I'd like to see make the cut:

  • The rest of the N64 characters (pretty confident on they're return though).
  • Mewtwo. not likely to happen at this point (especially if Jigglypuff does indeed return), but he's always been a favorite of mine
  • Ganondorf. Again, one of my favorites.
  • Meta Knight. Ditto above.
  • Snake. Ditto above (not likely to happen, though)
  • Lucina. They still haven't revealed a second FE character, and the series still needs more female fighters (I'd be okay with Tharja, Chrom, or Aversa too though).
  • King K. Rool. Needs more villains.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Lucina would essentially be a Marth clone, which is why I suggested her as an alt costume, but I find Tharja to be a very interesting choice because it's so different. Fire Emblem needs more representation than just the sword-wielding protagonists!

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

The spot for woman in tights is already taken though. Twice.

Wait, three with Sheik.

All spots are for women in tights.

I'll throw in my expected missing characters:
Most veterans would likely return, the ones that may not (I think) are:
+Ice Climbers, due to technical difficulties
+Ike, may be replaced with another FE character
+Lucas (would be cool if they kept him as a Ness skin)
+Pokemon Trainer (no duh)
+ROB, he just has one game with him and is not THAT memorable
+Falco and Wolf, though the first one is more likely to stay
+Snaaaake, almost forgot him as I have basically already counted him out

So that being said, here are some new characters I'd like and are somewhat likely to appear:
+Chrom/Lucina
+Shulk from Xenoblade
+A namco character (Pac-Man? LLoyd Irving?)
+Some non-clone character from Star Fox (Krystal, anyone?)
+Isaac from Golden Sun (notice how he still isn't an Assist Trophy?)
+Someone from Advanced Wars (don't really know the series well), mainly to replace Snake
+Someone really out of the blue from an unrepresented series (A la Game & Watch)
EDIT: +Totally forgot to include Palutena (especially since it's Sakurai's game and has also been removed from Pits Final Smash)

I honestly don't see how anyone could enjoy another fighting game, but not Smash Bros. I'm not saying everyone needs to love Smash Bros, but if you like fighting games, in general, I don't really see how you'd be unable to enjoy Smash Bros.

It's pure, unadulterated fun. Like Mario Kart. Except it's a love letter to all things Nintendo, and incorporates every franchise. The gameplay itself is quite simple, but refined. I don't see what's so hard to understand.

100% this.

It's a celebration of Nintendo.

Ever since Melee with the addition of trophies and the lore behind them the Smash Series has been a culmination of Nintendo history.

Even if you never heard of Nintendo, after playing through one of the Smash games you would have a rich understanding of the characters and stories behind them.

You guys get it. It's really just ridiculous how many franchises I got initially interested in as a kid only because their characters made it into Smash Bros. It really makes Nintendo feel a lot more cohesive as a result. And of course, the games themselves are a blast to play with friends.

Which is why I hope the next Mario Kart will be "Nintendo Kart".

Not sure if anyone has said this but the release dates are genius.
The 3ds version was always going to outsell the wii u version, but now it is releasing before they can maximise its sales, whereas this would have not happened if it was released earlier.
And putting the wii u version at a holiday release will also maximise sales, as its going to sell the best during the holiday season. So overall genius.
Greninja looks fantastic, happy with the other characters. Looks absolutely brilliant. Still going to ignore the 3ds version and play it where it was intended to be played. Only downside is the secret unlockable characters will be spoiled by the time the Wii u version comes out.

Smash Bros. is completely different than your average fighting game like Street Fighter or Tekken. Yes they're both fighting games but they have totally different play styles and appeal to different audiences, Smash Bros. being something more of a party game and less of a dedicated fighter. Smash Bros is probably my favorite game series but even I understand the difference between it and other fighting games; it should be simple to see why not all fighting-game fans like Smash Bros.

Smash is way different gihter because even within the scope of For Glory Play there's this era of ra dimness and it's not as technical as a street fighter or hell even a PlayStation all stars.

I was really happy with the direct. It's a good strategy to release a 3DS version first I guess - the 3DS version is going to sell well no matter what, so that version is going to generate interest in the WiiU version. Also, it makes sense to release a game that is vital for WiiU during Winter/Christmas - WiiU has a number of great games, but its releases got so diluted in a large time span that I don't think they made the system desiderable. Instead of releasing one single great game in Spring, one in Summer etc, I think it's wiser, marketing-wise, to hold on until they can unleash all the beasts during one single season. So lets hope this Winter is Smash Bros/Bayo2/X.
ps. the game is shaping up rather nicely too!

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
