This is basically why I am so confused about the PS4's Sales Figures.
What's there to be confused about?
They've promoted the PS4 pretty well, shown that they have good relations with 3rd parties that actually want to put games on the system, and they showed in 2013 that they will support the console in its last years(something neither of their competitors did).

But why buy the console? They show good relations with 3rd Parties but what 3rd Party PS4 game is out and a must buy on PS4 compared to Xbox One or even Wii U?
They are still supporting the PS3 so why buy a PS4 which cannot play PS3 games?
I will agree they had some of the best marketing towards consumers. I feel that was the key to the PS4. People hear such bad things about WIi U and Xbox One but they want a new console so they got a PS4 without really diving into information and software. What was the PS4's Killer App that got it to where it is?
To be fair, their initial success is based on the idea that the consoles will be great later on and is also because Ps3 was the only console people have cared about for the past couple of years anyway. Of course that logic is stupid. The only reason to buy a console new is because it is way easier to justify to most people to pay (Wii U example) 350 dollars at launch and then 60 dollars occasionally later rather than buying 5 60 dollar games and a Wii U all at once.

For me its Infamous and MLB. That coupled with having the most games and in most cases better versions of games announced.
It came down to.
Way more support of games and media than the Wii U
$100 cheaper and PS+ is a better value than live.

I wonder what a PS4 exclusive, X1 exclusive, and Wii U exclusive list would look like.
The best selling next gen games are Call of Duty Ghosts and ACIV, it's obvious that doesn't matter anymore. (half serious)
Wii U exclusive list would be hurt by more versions of Rayman Legends that no one bought. (even compared to the Wii U release, which is like Ouya levels of fail. YOU SURE THOUGHT THIS ONE THROUGH UBISOFT :V)
I don't regret my Wii U. I thoroughly enjoy(ed) Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo Land, Game and Wario, and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. I can wait patiently for the next big hit
Current games: Everything on Switch

There are a lot of 3rd party games on the PS4 that ppl want to play.
You're assuming and making the mistake Nintendo made. Most ppl want the most for their money and those 3rd party multiplats run best on the PS4, so that will be the console most gamers purchase them for.
Most gamers have not made the transition to a next gen system, but the PS4 numbers should not be surprising to anyone. Not when last gen lasted so long and Sony's competitors shot themselves in the foot the way they did.
@Maniac
Actually, PS3 is the console that needed to last the longest, considering it was a huge investment for Sony, compared to Nintendo or Microsoft.
No one shot themselves in the foot.
The point is that Xbox One is getting a majority of the same games as PS4, and it's still selling less.
Nintendo is the superior software developer IMO, but, I will say, I don't regret purchasing the PS4 whatsoever, I can't the same unfortunately for the Wii U.

Thats because most if not all multiplats on the Xbox One have been inferior to the PS4 version even you must realise that plus the initial price really screwed MS and launching second in the US.
@Jazzer94
Ya, but alot of people also still realize that developers and companies are still trying to figure out how to handle 8th gen. People aren't worried about the short term, as much as the long term, so PS4 getting ACIV in 1080p isn't that big of a deal, because they're still figuring things out.
Xbox One can run ACIV in 1080p. It's just a matter of figuring out how.

Not really.
Sony hardware is just supported pretty long. The same thing happened with both of their previous consoles and the PSP. Its a decision to pander to a larger install base. I really dont think another year or two of exclusives could make up for the losses Sony took early on.
And yes, Nintendo and MS shot themselves in the foot. I really dont see how you could say otherwise. Its not the end of the world, but they have an uphill battle ahead of them.
So the PS4 is doing so well because it can play games on last-gen and current gen the best? I don't get that. If I have a machine (360 or PS3) that can play the games I want, why upgrade to a new machine (PS4) just for a small increase in performance?
I get there are a few exclusives people may want but I haven't seen a Killer App for PS4. So I don't understand why the PS4 is selling so well. Obviously this gen is unique and not playing out like any other generation (but I guess each gen was unique)
