Might also vote for Amaterasu, but it probably isn't worth it.
I expect the one's with the most votes will be cut characters like Wolf -_-
Independent thought is fun. Much better than voting with the hive mind... How about putting Ron Paul, the real person, into the game? He could throw heroine as a ranged attack, what could be better family fun than that!?!?
On a more serious note, I think Paper Mario is one they could realistically do. Given the RPG Series, Paper Mario has much potential in a unique moveset making use of his tools (Hammer, Paper Abilities, Stickers, etc.). Visually, he can be heavily 2D like game and watch, but with actual visual expression. Plus, it can compliment the Paper Mario 3DS Stage nicely.
That's who I voted for, and as you said I think he could have an interesting moveset! Hold B to charge the super hammer, down and B to use the power bounce badge and maybe even cross and B to use someone like Koops in TTYD where he shoots out and back to Mario
That's who my vote is going for, too! We have a bunch of Mario characters already, but I'm not throwing the possibility out of consideration for that, either. He'd make a pretty fun and unique fighter.
After scratching my head I've decided on Lego Batman, Bayonetta, and Professor Layton as they are the ones that would get me the most excited even though there are more deserving characters out there.
Seriously? Solid Snake? He hasn't even been on a Nintendo console since the Gamecube (barring the 3DS port).

I voted for Fiora from Xenoblade Chronicles, but I'm not sure if the vote went through or not since I only received an error message saying I could not view the page when the confirmation page was supposed to load. There are a few others I'd like to see, too:
1. Fiora
2. Ouendan Agents (The four leaders for each side could be the different alts, similar to how Bowser Jr. works)
3. Lana (Hyrule Warriors)
4. Inkling (Splatoon)
5. Masked Man (Mother 3)
I'm not voting for veterans because I get a feeling they'll return anyway. I think Wolf's going to be the next DLC character shown, it's just a feeling I have.

Aw man. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone else had a hard time voting. There are so many deserving characters! If I could vote for more than one character, then she'd definitely be there. It seems like they may plan to keep releasing DLC to keep the game's content growing, so hopefully they consider a reasonable amount of characters.
Oh, and I like the palette swaps.
