@shani: Don't apologise - they're excellent to read, and I'm prone to the exact same habit. Whether you learn something new, or have a conclusion you've personally come to affirmed, these sorts of posts are definitely worth reading. Also, you generally have to get a bit wordy if you want to say anything that hasn't been said a million times before.
It's a really pertinent choice of the word "flanked" you've used. A squid out of its own ink is like a sitting duck, or a fish out of water (or any other water-based animal metaphor you can think of). Of course, it's relatively easy to carve your own path forwards with your weapon, but that takes more time than swimming through existing ink, and also leaves you much more predicable than if you have a metaphorical ocean of ink to swim in. If you've carved out a line in front of you, you've only really got that line to move about in, which gives you pretty limited options in a fight.
It's also interesting comparing the the use of the word "flanked" in Splatoon with its original military meaning, in which hundreds of real soldiers would do the flanking, rather than ink. In Splatoon, you only have four players per team, but your ink coverage acts as a sort of 'phantom army' that can exert pressure on the opposing team by just sitting there. There's the explicit battle between the two teams where they try to shoot each other, but then there's a whole different battle for control of the map raging on underneath their feet, resulting in a dynamic and constantly shifting battlefield.
That's part of what makes Splatoon so unique. The battlefield is not just a passive backdrop; it's almost a weapon in itself, which both teams are constantly trying to manipulate and control. Yay Splatoon!
@Rexcalibr: Oh I forgot: While we don't have any guides of our own, there are some tactical guides on squidboards, of course. Weapon guides too, among other things. Do you know squidboards? I also saw some video guides on youtube, but honestly they didn't tell me anything I didn't know already.

Couldn't have put it better myself! This is Splatoon in a nutshell.
Oh and thanks.
Yeah, in addition to what you wrote, a good principle would be to try to always have pre-inked paths and not just one, which indeed makes you predictable, but several. In fact, I often try to trick my opponents by shooting somewhere and attacking somewhere else.
On rare occasion this mindgame goes even so far that when there are only two options (like left and right), you might want to let your opponent think that you're deking left but attacking right, when actually you're planning to attack left all along. ^^
I just had a situation on Urchin Underpass with the RM, where I went left over the secret alley and made a RM shot for everyone to see. I wanted to draw the enemy to the second balcony and jumped down at the first balcony. This bought all of us a little bit of time and so we evaded out of our own half. Honestly, I can't believe it worked.

@Nicolai: I'm not wearing the white kicks, I just meant that I have the same three run speed up abilities on them. And you're no copy-cat JorJay and Baymax are the copy-cats...
And you saved me in the beginning of that match! XD Thanks!
