I was lucky to be able to wake up at 5 instead of 4, but I still overslept. I only lost 15 minutes, but from both that I played, I can't wait for the next session.
Has anyone tried to decipher the squid language? I noticed that it appears to be based off of English. Nintendo of Japan posted an image of S.R.L. members and the text looks very similar to the words in English. https://twitter.com/splatoonjp/status/596962759541063680
Although it could just be made up, looking at where some letters would be like the 'a' in "research" and "lab", the symbols look different so I'm not sure on how the language works.
I like the charger, but I think I would like it more for single player. Splattershot and Splat Roller seem to work better in multiplayer, for me at least.
Ok, wow. As someone who doesn't enjoy shooters or online games, Splatoon was an absolute blast. The online servers were rock solid, the gameplay was incredibly fun, and the art style and music are beautiful. I am pretty much sold.
No lag, No disconnects and no waiting for a game. So far pretty much perfect, i'm using an ethernet adapter though which probably helps a fair amount
That we get full lobbies pretty quickly is because of the hype right now.
Later when the game was out for a while it can get problematic. If you take MK8 as an example it can take a while until 7 other people join the lobby. Unlike MK8 where you can get started with 2 players only, you need a full lobby to get started in Splatoon.

It's not that I don't enjoy online games, but I rarely play them. Even games like Mario Kart or Smash, I play them mostly singleplayer, but I can definitely see myself playing Splatoon regularly online.

I think this demo version is very much about testing the player distribution on the server side. In MK8, empty lobbies isn't usually caused by people not playing, but because the distribution has some bugs. (I can sometimes wait for minutes in an empty room in MK8, but if I cancel and reconnect I get a race full of people.)

I had issues with the weapons, as well. The game is inherently territory based, so it doesn't matter how many kills you make. That said, the charger is only good for killing—so how does it make any good use in the main game? Personally, I think when August rolls around and we have teams and you have their SkypeName to online chat with them, being a sniper will be MUCH more useful. That way, you aren't just killing for funsies, but are killing for strategy. Someone can coordinate where a lot of baddies are and a sniper can jump to the nearest area. Or someone can coordinate where a bottleneck is and a sniper can get to the nearest high point and take people off. Otherwise... yeah: the roller and BARELY the splattergun are the best weapons.
I played during the first test hour. It was an absolute blast to play. Also thoroughly impressed with the netcode and servers - the servers never crashed and there was no lag whatsoever. Buttery smooth.
The roller was a bit OP, but I feel like it's mostly another Little Mac case. Knowing how to counter them makes them more balanced. Also feel that there will be better balance with the full game as there will be more weapons in each of the four types. That paintbrush weapon that's being added post-launch will be really good as I'm willing to bet it removes the drawback of having to turn at an arc that comes with the normal Splat Roller.
That being said, there are already jokes going around about the roller. Saw one guy mention the idea of Diddy Kong holding a Splat Roller while riding Mega Rayquaza. Would have been a more effective joke before Diddy's nerf.
Um. I dunno if this has been asked before, but will one be able to play Splatoon with the Pro Controller (instead of the Gamepad)? Booted up the demo and it's only letting me use the Gamepad. #wornoutleftanalog #Gamepadfixneeded #curseyouCoD #firstworldprobs
On a side note, apparently Nintendo of America remembered that they own an MLB team - there was a Splatoon billboard ad in the Mariners' stadium last night.
Haven't gotten to play any of the testfires but yeah, it sounds like the whole "Roller OP" situation is just other case of "Little Mac" syndrome with a hint of Diddy Kong. Give it a couple of months after release and we may well see Rollers as the newbie weapons.

Does anyone know on one's individual record if the kill/death ratio is listed? I know the game is all territory-based, but I feel that kills do make a contribution to the game nonetheless [as stated in my earlier post]. [Let the yelling/comparisons-to-COD ensue]
I was looking forward to using the charger the most but was disappointed. I'm beast with the splattershot though. As for countering the rollers, just find a high ground and pick them apart, they can't touch you.
