Topic: Smash Bros or Mario Kart 8?

In my opinion, these are the two best games for the Wii U. I'm curious to know, which do you like better? I wanted to make this a poll but I didn't see that as an option for some reason when I made the thread.

I'm undecided. Sometimes I love Smash Bros, other times it's so frustrating I just want to turn it off but I love both games. If it came down to it, I think I like Smash Bros slightly better but Mario Kart 8 is a game that's very relaxing to play while Smash Bros has me always on edge… or over the edge when I'm playing a spammy jerk on For Glory.

In the end though… both games have the Kooopa darlings so it's a win-win.

…….what? Don't act like you didn't know there was going to be a Koopaling shout out in this thread.

The reason you didn't see an option to make it a poll is cause there isn't one.

Games I like better, when I'm not going to play a party brawler or kart game are:

  • Pikmin 3
  • Bayonetta 2
  • Lego City: Undercover
  • Super Mario 3D World
  • Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze
  • Stealth Inc. 2
  • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
  • Wind Waker: HD
  • Hyrule Warriors

Both games are great.

Mario Kart 8 better in single player. Smash Bros better in multiplayer!

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

There are Wii U games I like more. Of the two, though, definitely Mario Kart 8. I've found I usually just go play my 3DS when I'm in a Smash mood. I've adjusted to using the circle pad in that game, anyhow.

Currently Playing: Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re- Boot Camp (NS)

I got bored with Super Smash really quick (mostly due to the laggy online play since there is no region restriction), but I'm still having a blast online in MK8 even now and then. And there is even more to come in May when the new DLC is out. So I'd say MK8.

Edit: Gotta agree with the posts below mine: Bayonetta 2 is better than both of them. It's a shame that the online is pretty much dead already

Mario Kart definitely for me but I've been pleasantly surprised how much fun I've had with Smash considering I never enjoyed any of the previous entries. My favourite game so far though has to be Donkey Kong TF,for me it's one of the finest platformers ever made and definitely my favourite in the series.I've got really high hopes for Yoshi's Wooly World to be a classic too so that can't come soon enough.

Personally, it's no contest. Mario Kart is a FAR better game than Smash Bros. Not just for Wii U, but in every single instance. Mario Kart 64 > Super Smash Bros. Mario Kart Double Dash > Super Smash Bros Melee. Mario Kart Wii > Super Smash Bros Braw. Mario Kart 8 > Super Smash Bros U.

Smash is fun, and there's a lot of content (I love collecting music and trophies) but the game itself is nothing compared to Mario Kart.

As an aside, Bayonetta 2 is the best game on the Wii U, by a hundred miles.

Of the two, I prefer Smash. But right now the only Wii U game I play is Hyrule Warriors.

Still, my most played game is The Wonderful 101.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

This pretty much.
But as others have said Bayonetta 2 and Super Mario 3D World are better than both.

I think I have a certain fondness for Mario Kart over Smash Bros. Whenever I have people over for Super Smash Bros., it tends to get really intense, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. I can play Mario Kart with just about anyone.

I have a feeling that Splatoon is going to knock both of them out of the water, though. If only it had local multiplayer!

Got married.

I'm surprised most people are going for Mario Kart. I would have thought Smash would win by a landslide. Could you guys explain why you like Mario Kart more? Is it just becaude you can relax more while playing?

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Smash Bros.

Mario Kart 8 is fun and all, but I think it's one of the weaker entries. MKWii, MKDS, and MK:DD were better IMO.

@Kaze_Memaryu I've been playing Smash U nearly everyday since launch, and still haven't done everything/unlocked everything yet. Yeah... don't know what game you're playing.

Smash Mains:
N64: Captain Falcon
Melee: Mario
Brawl: Sonic
Project M: Link
Smash 3DS: Captain Falcon
Smash Wii U: Ganondorf

ZurrrrBlattTron

The best entry in the Smash bros series vs the most boring entry in the Mario Kart series, oh but Mario Kart 8 did have some great songs though

Mario Kart is just more fun. Smash is great in small chunks, but Mario Kart is always fun. Even if there is less to do in the game, it's still more fun overall. I think if Smash had an Adventure mode, then maybe it would have more value to me but as it stands, Smash just doesn't do it for me like MK does. And since MK8 is the best in the series so far, it's not even close.

To me, Smash is a lot more "casual" than Mario Kart, in the sense that you were talking about. I play Smash to have fun and relax. I get serious about my MK. I play Smash to collect things and unlock stuff, but I don't play it competitively.

Super Smash Bros actually has a full 60 dollars worth of content and the variety of the roster actually makes a difference, so it has that going for it.

I think a lot of people are turned off by Smash Bros's competitive scene.

I love Mario Kart 8 but I only play multiplayer online. I think it looks so ugly when playing 4 player local. The frame rate drops so much, but playing single player looks amazing.

I also noticed, when I switched my TV to "gaming mode", Smash Bros runs so much smoother online.
