I got to thinking yesterday when I switched off wonderful 101 and had a coffee, I love this game so much but why is there nothing like this or as good as this on any other platform.

I'm a pretty big fan of quirky games like, no more heroes, lollipop chainsaw, viewtiful joe, and wonderful 101. But when I look at the recent past and future of nintendo's competitors I see no games like this.

I think the reason for this is quite simply, they don't sell, lollipop chainsaw sold terrible as did bayonetta as did no more heroes paradise. But I think it's fair to say that there does seem to be a more appreciating audience on nintendo platforms even if it is small, it's still bigger than what is elsewhere.

When bayonetta 2 was announced as a Wii U exclusive, the internet forums and youtube erupted with hate. But who is really to blame here ? for years sony and microsoft gamers have made it pretty clear that the majority of their user base (for the most part) only care about, battlefield, COD, and FIFA, or anything with swearing, big guns and knives and lots of killing.

Or at least that seems to be the perception

Bayonetta 2 was already in development under sega before nintendo got involved and would have been a multiplatform release, but they dropped it due to the fact that they deemed it unprofitable. And then another good example is alien colonial marines, the developers came out and and said that a lot of their good ideas got scrapped because sega wanted it to be more like COD. Also why isn't sonic and the lost world a multiplat ?

So already a major publisher/developer has this perception of the so called "hardcore" user base. And it doesn't seem to be getting any better for them either, You only have to look at the launch line up of their new consoles, Nothing interesting or that we haven't seen before......."meh"

All we hear is "nintendo gamers are missing out on this, missing out on that" but I ask you, who is really missing out ? you won't hear me complaining about GTA 5 or battlefield 4 so I'm not missing anything. But I hear a lot of bitching and moaning about nintendo's 3rd party exclusives.

Wii U's launch line up was not perfect but at least we had games like nintendo land, zombi u, and was meant to have rayman legends, and the thing about these games was they all featured gameplay mechanics or had a vibe we had never experienced before,and the latest news of rayman legends outselling the 360 and PS3 on the Wii U further confirms this.

So the next time you hear people moaning about sonic lost world, or bayonetta 2 being Wii U exclusive, or you hear "it would sell better on 360 or PS3" you know that they are talking out of their backside.

But it's not all bad, recently a very good game called killer is dead has hit the 360 and PS3, and I suggest your give it go, because not only is it a great game but if these kind of games continue to gather dust on store shelves, these "next gen systems" will be home to nothing more than a bunch of generic shooters, garbage like saints row 10 and sports sims.

I don't quite understand your title, but I read your thoughts and I do agree with you for the most part (I'm not sure if you're calling for Nintendo games to be multiplat - if you are, that's the point I don't agree with lol).

This industry used to be a lot different. Games were all over the place, and publishers were totally willing to let their devs take chances and try new things. Look at games like Act Raiser - an action/RPG/Sim-City game that probably wouldn't find much funding today outside of indies. It's so hard for publishers to break even that they are sort of forced to support the franchises they know will sell: CoD, Battlefield, Gears, Halo, Uncharted, etc. I don't view the publishers as "evil" because of this - it's just what they need to do if they want to stay afloat in such terrible economic times.

That's why I like Nintendo. They're insane (and journalists rarely forget to mention that in their Nintendo articles). They will try the random and new, and they will support the "lower"-selling franchises that have die-hard followings but generally don't rake in as much profit. The Wii U hasn't even been out for a year and look at the radically different games we have: Pikmin, W101, Wario, ZombiU, Nintendoland. It's awesome. There are unique games on the other systems (I loved Mirror's Edge), but they are fewer and further between. GTA doesn't excite me anymore. If I get the CoD bug I'll play it on the best platform: PC. In my opinion, Microsoft and Sony have a lot of thinking to do to make their systems stand out; though, sadly, they will remain wildly profitable as long as they keep cranking out more Gears and Uncharted games.

If you say so, sorry I can't type anymore, the jealousy is making my hands go numb

@Shrew

I have never called GTA garbage, it just doesn't interest me, been there, done that. Apparently if your not wetting yourself over GTA 5, it means you hate it.

@KiDasharus

Money talks my friend, do you think if nintendo went third party and released mario kart on the 360 it would sell 27 million copies ?

If it was a multiplatform game, it probably would have sold more copies. More people would have owned 360s and PS3s due to the lack of a Nintendo system, and people would go out and buy the game in droves.
Now, I don't know if Nintendo would make more money, per se. They wouldn't make money off of system sales, and they wouldn't make as much money per game, since they don't own the system. Microsoft and Sony would make a killing off of royalties that would traditionally go to Nintendo.
But in terms of raw system sales, yeah, it'd probably sell more. The audience that you say doesn't exist on the other platforms (which I doubt; just look at the crazy sales for Kinect) would definitely be there if Nintendo was 3rd party.

Also, I think the reason you're not seeing the kinds of games your looking for in other platforms because those games are usually download-only. The middle-tier game publishing sector has largely went away, with the massive products being the only ones to survive. There's tons of unique and cooky games on XBLA and PSN. You'll likely not see many games like the Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 regardless of system, unless if Nintendo picks up Platinum as a 2nd party.

They do sell. On fact the Wonderfu 101 sold 5000 copies in Japan alone.

Gotta agree with this. No offense intended OP, but that seems like quite the generalization. Pretty much the same thing as saying all Nintendo gamers care about is childish platformers and mini-game collections.
