By a similar token, the music that plays on most of the islands during the Big Purple Star segment reminds me of Donkey Kong Country 2's Crocodile Isle.
I was not prepared for Justice Toad. That entire sequence had me rolling. Didn't expect him to be useful honestly.

Surprising no one, miyamoto is the reason behind the lack of new characters and unique plotline. What held the game up was the writing, thank goodness. But imagine if they were allowed to actually do what they wanted? In the next game, just cut out the middle man and make it a regular Super Mario game, except made of paper. Jump on enemies, save peach from bowser.
I need help! I found blue rescue team members before findind the leader. Now that I found the leader he's not recognizing that I've already found certain members. When I go back to those levels to re-rescue them, they're not there. What do I do?
Try going to port prisma. In the south yellow area, the rescue squad members will gather. There's a toad with avaiator subglasses that will tell you what courses the missing toads can be found. If you found all of the blue members already, you may need to leave the course where the leader is and reenter to talk to him again.
I bought it on release day but it's still sealed and I am horribly concerned it's dumb. I like side scrolling and 3D Mario games but this looks like a ton of reading and pretty boring gameplay.

No demo I'm afraid. The game is not "dumb" it is very funny but not at all like traditional Mario run and jump games. It requires a bit of patience with reading and you might get stuck in finding the solutions to some problems but then just check a walkthrough. I recommend this game and would place it in my top 5 on the Wii U.

Yes, puzzles (such as bringing the right objects to the right place) and light turn based combat using cards on the gamepad. Many different environments and unexpected story twists. I was unsure after watching some videos of gameplay but got it anyway. Glad I did!
@polarbear Hmm...I'm seeing some VERY polarizing reviews. One guy loved the charm, the other hated the battle controls.
I will say, the element that has me least excited is the whole card system. If this was the same game but with jumping and the color hammer alone (like regular Mario but a with hammer), I'd be way happier.

I'm not sure how Nintendo managed to do it, but they suddenly turned this great game into something incredibly tedious. I was having troubles with the Roshambo temples yesterday (a bad game mechanic in general), but now a Bandit Shy Guy spawned on the overworld. I had it happen several times before, but he was always within reach before the timer disappeared. Anyway, a Bandit Shy Guy spawned in the middle of the map and the target was on the left, I was on the right. It was impossible to catch up to him before he finished. Turns out that if you don't get to him in time, he drains almost all the colour from the targeted level. I had finished the level and it went back to 6%.
What's with this game and its tedious mechanics? This IS NOT fun. Having to recolor an entire level just because some RNG mechanic picked an unbeatable situation. Who thought this was a good idea?
Sigh.. I'm really not looking forward to playing this game anymore..
@DarthNocturnal And you know, the weird this is that the actual game itself isn't bad at all. Writing is good, visuals are great, maybe the game is a bit too easy; despite the fact that you're using cards, it's still pretty simple, I wish the combat was a bit more tactical. Still, not a reason for me to dislike the game. However, it's this stupid RNG stuff that don't add anything to the game that ruin the experience. Yes, the Roshambo temples are completely optional (still required to 100% the game), but that Bandit Shy Guy that shows up on the map once in a while pretty much ruins the entire game. The main premise of the game is to restore the island with colour, but once they start introducing mechanics that completely erase your progress at random, it becomes a very tedious experience.
@jump it was pre-ordered as soon as it was announced. I didn't pay any attention to the details because it was the first party Nintendo Mario title I figured I would like it. I honestly thought it was going to be something similar to 3D Mario kind of like how Yoshi Woolly World (Which I also got, like but haven't finished) is stylized but pretty much a regular Yoshi game.
I decided to open this game. I played for a couple hours and like it. I can see the cards getting quickly tedious. I ran away from some Shy Guys to avoid it.
The writing is pretty hilarious. That's is quite surprising.
