We haven't had our inevitable early 2016 Direct. Wii U is gonna get a bunch of remasters in 2016. Trust me. Games from GameCube and N64 will be remade. Mario Sunshine HD is gonna happen.

I don't think I can agree with any of this. I think the fact that Pokken Tournament's Wii U announcement wasn't in a Nintendo Direct may very well confirm that with Iwata's passing, Directs are no longer a part of Nintendo's agenda. And I'd be down for a Sunshine remaster, but I'm not so sure it's gonna happen, let alone even more HD remakes . Nintendo has already said that the reason Wii U VC releases take so long is because otherwise they'd have to use up too much of their resourses, and that's just for direct ports, let alone remasters with enhanced graphics and possibly new content.

So, we have Zelda, SMTxFE, and Pokken? That's it? Seriously? Talk about slim pickings.

Thank goodness I have a PS4 and access to an Xbox One. There's no way I'd be able to settle with the Wii U's upcoming lineup.

The problem with this theory is the Pokemon Company more often than not announces stuff on their own schedule. Today was the opening of the world championships which is why it was announced, it has nothing to do with Nintendo abandoning directs.

The way people are reacting about not knowing what the future of Nintendo holds, can you imagine how they react when they think of their own personal future?

I'd imagine they wouldn't react as badly, since they have a far greater control and influence over their own future. While they are less aware with Nintendo and have far less control over Nintendo's direction and future. People tend to fear the unknown, especially when they have little influence or power over it.

One little pebble can send our lives down a path we had not planned on or prepared for, and people are somewhat larger than pebbles, and significantly more unpredictable. We may influence our lives, but we don't have control.

I think that right now, Nintendo are still dealing with an internal management restructure following Iwata's passing. This could well be having a knock on effect in causing delays in other areas, i.e. new game announcements, future release schedules. I don't doubt that 2016 will be the final big year for the Wii U and truth be told, it doesn't instil a feeling of confidence when they're still sorting things out. Alas, these things can throw a spanner in the works sometimes so in the words of Iwata, I guess we have to be patient and "please understand".

Yep, and if people freak out over something so small as only having a handful of Wii U games in 2016... well, I'd advise them not to consider buying a house, the stress will do them in.

I just don't get why Nintendo doesn't spend a little money to get some Final Fantasy remake action. Just try to build up a fanbase for those games.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

They were lacking new game announcements even before Iwata died, that likely has nothing to do with the timing.

Or they can spend that money on making new games themselves

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

They can do both, you know... I would've had Final Fantasy games on Wii U a long time ago. That's what Sony does. They gave some money to get Resident Evil: Revelations 2 on Vita.

Very true, I was just trying to cut them some slack for a change (last time I said that they were lacking new titles I was in trouble) but if they were in a dire situation before Iwata's passing, you would think they'd try to announce a decent line up for 2016. To show the fans, investors and rivals that they're not out of the game yet so to speak.

Indeed, 2016 is severely lacking. Too bad that it's impossible for Nintendo to announce more games.

@UGXwolf: Of course it is. I think it's ridiculous to complain about the lack of games when there's plenty of opportunities left for Nintendo to announce more games. We might as well start complaining about the lack of games in 2017 and 2018, because Nintendo hasn't announced games for 2017 and 2018 yet. We don't know anything about what's going to happen in 2016, but that doesn't mean it's the year of doom and gloom when the Wii U will dead and replaced. People have been saying since last year that the Wii U was going to be replaced in 2014, that didn't happen, it didn't happen in 2015 and it's probably not going to happen in 2016. I think everyone needs to relax and enjoy the games that are released today and stop worrying what Nintendo will do in a year or two from now.

Agree with this 100%. Especially the last sentence.

@Octane: Ok. I completely agree. Well, except for enjoying the games that are released today, since Nintendo hasn't released anything since May. (Still really pissed about Yoshi's Woolly World.)
