An article on Gamasutra reveals Nintendo President Saturo Iwata has said Nintendo should not be hesitant to acquire companies with which they have good relationships. Further, they are open to all kinds of partnerships (the likes of which I believe we have already seen with Smash Bros and Bayonetta) as well as allowing 3rd parties to work on spin-offs of their main IPs (which we have also seen, with Hyrule Warriors).
I've been a huge proponent of Nintendo buying certain gaming companies and adding them and their IPs to their portfolio. Right off the bat, SEGA, Capcom and NamcoBandai are the three I'd like for Nintendo to buy, right now. As in, today. Buy them.
SEGA has a ton of franchises that could use that Nintendo touch. First of all, it would lock down Bayonetta, which I think we all want. Second, Sonic might get a proper game for the first time since the Genesis. There are other IPs that could be revived if Nintendo buys SEGA. Ecco the Dolphin, Crazy Taxi, House of the Dead, Jet Set Radio, MadWorld could be locked down, NiGHTS, Phantasy Star (OMG!), The Conduit, Virtua Fighter, Valkyra Chronicles, and of course, the afore mentioned Sonic.
With Capcom, first and foremost, Nintendo would have Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and arguably more importantly, Monster Hunter, MegaMan, Devil May Cry and Okami (which we all know needs a sequel/spiritual successor).
Finally, with NamcoBandai, Nintendo would have the Tales of Series (my personal favorite JRPG franchise) and PacMan, as well as Tekken and Soul Calibur. I'm not sure who owns Baten Kaitos ... Nintendo, or Namco, but that would be another great addition.
Not all of the franchises I mentioned are AAA, console-seller, must-own games. But there can be no downside from having these, and many more that I probably missed, games in the portfolio. And there's no rule that says that Nintendo can't allow some of these games to be released on other consoles. I picked these three companies specifically because Nintendo has a history of working closely with them already (as all three have major characters, arguably, their most iconic characters, in Super Smash Bros). Why not take that to the next step?
Oh, Nintendo aquiring other companies. Pheewph. I thought you meant Nintendo was open to being aquired. That would've sucked...
So, I'm not the only one who thought that when I read the title. Perhaps it should be worded better?

That would have. Though I think that if Nintendo doesn't spend some of that money under the mattress, they could end up like SEGA, and, eventually, be acquired themselves.
I think it would be wiser to aquire small development studios to help with internal franchises vice monstrosities like Capcom, Sega, or Namco, who have their hands in a bunch of cookie jars. You would have to continue to support games already released or in development for a vast array of competing platforms. If you cancel said game, what about the personal and assets? etc. If IP'S are what your after, waiting until said company folds, like THQ, would be a lot cleaner.
"Nintendo Open to Acquiring Other Companies" Maybe?

None of those companies are going bankrupt any time soon, I don't think. And like I said, why not continue to fund those games? Let them come out, use that money to fund other games. Who says Nintendo-owned Namco can't still release a Soul Calibur game on PS4/XBO? All that would mean is that Nintendo-only owners wouldn't miss out.
Nintendo needs to buy SEGA badly. Or at least buy Sonic, it seems like the only way for the series to be good again at this point is to put it in the hands of someone more competent.
And yes, the thread's title is worded badly because it makes it sound like Nintendo is open to being bought out.

I thought it ment Nintendo was willing to sell old IP they don't use. I would have thrown down $100 for Ice Climbers... give them their own fighting game, take that Smash 3DS lol
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Nintendo should buy Wayforward. Smaller company that can produce smaller games fairly frequently with a good track record (minus their licensed titles) Plus would wouldn't want to see Wayforward tackle 2D Metroid?
I think Nintendo will acquire Platinum Games and the Bayonetta IP but that's all
I would love to see that! Unfortunately Platinum is pretty die hard in remaining independent, most of them probably feel a bit bitter about the Capcom days with Clover.
I do think Nintendo needs to somehow lock down the Bayonetta IP with Platinum (for good), it's a an acclaimed franchise that fills in a pretty big gap within the Nintendo portfolio.

Plus, let's admit it, Shantae somehow makes sense / feels right in the Nintendo universe.
while sega and namco bandai are too big for nintendo to buyout, capcom is totally on the table and are open to buyout at the moment and that would bring in so many new franchises for nintendo, so they don't have to keep relying heavily on mario games.
