Now I'm just going to say this now. This is NOT a gloom and doom or a stop picking on Nintendo thread.
With that said, I personally think that Wii U, like the Wii before it, will coexist with the other two upcoming consoles. While the Xbox and PS butt heads, Wii U just stands on the sidelines since Nintendo pretty much does their own thing. Think about it, many of us on here have a Wii (Wii U), while also owning an Xbox/PS system. So who's to say this generation won't play out the same way?
Now obviously this isn't to say that the Wii U won't have competition, but rather that it has its own path separate from the other two. For example, while the MS and Sony consoles share several multiplatform IPs (while still having their own respective exclusives) and the consumer must choose between the two in that regard, one MUST get a Nintendo console in order to play their signature franchises, such as Mario and Zelda.

The Wii U seems to be attracting a lot of indie developers to it which is great in my eyes. While it may not get the third-party support Nintendo wants, I think it will still have a great selection of first-party and indie games. The PS4 and XO will probably have the big "AAA" titles similar to last gen, but i'm alright with that.

PS4 is hitting the indie scene hard, too.
which is why Nintendo and Sony are the only rational major game companies left

Are indie games indie if they're published by a AAA publisher?
Anywho Nintendo doesn't have to compete but i wish they would. Rather only have to buy one system instead of buying two.

has anyone bothered to count the different threads all dealing with the same thing?
Don't worry, I'm on the case, I've already got, like, seven threads purely about WiiU doom bookmarked since March.

All of those indie developers have been on Steam, desura, playstation and xbox for years. Nintendo is just starting to scratch the surface when the others are well established with indies. They are all ahead of nintendo in everything except 1st party games. Nintendo IMO still makes the best 1st party stuff.
They need to keep doing that kind of stuff to stay relevant to gamers(indies) but also add even more to their arsenal. Right now Nintendo is relevant to Nintendo fans and mostly to younger kids(pokemon and that kind of stuff) and Wii also attracted stay at home moms thinking they could lose weight on a wii.
They need to just make a lot of good 1st party games, increase their online features for the console and keep on bringing in indies and keep up with the times. Get the average 20-35 year old gamer interested in them again and not think of them as the kids machines.
xbox one will dominate the north amercia market with ps4 on second and wiiU on close 3rd
ps4 will win in europe with xbox one on close second and wiiu on third
wiiU will win in japan. ps4 second and xbox one will sell better than xbox360 but still not really recognized in japan.
wiiU will mainly be a seond console for ps4 or xbox one users. i'm with you op. of course hardcore nintendo fans will use the wiiU as their main console. nintendo will have the best and most innovative exclusives and in the end people will see that the wiiU is the most innovative console oh that gen.
Well, I'm getting the Xbox One, too. I just think the devices are different enough to warrant a purchase. I already have the motion controller and GamePad with the Wii U, so now I want the camera and graphics with the Xbox One. I'm gonna have both, so I'm good.

While that is true, can you honestly say you wouldn't like Ninty to have all the 3rd party games Xbox/Playstation do? I would.
After watching Jim Sterling's rants on the AAA industry...heck no! EA is becoming more and more irrelevant due to repeatedly dumb mistakes. Square Enix is failing to set priorities. And both of them just lost their CEOs. Nintendo has Ubisoft, Capcom, and Sega on their side (maybe Activision too). They are fine.
And after watching both reveals (PS4 and Xbox), I don't really think Nintendo has anything to worry about. Microsoft and Sony now seem to be taking their own paths, so it's hard to say if anyone is "competing" with each other anymore. Perhaps the Wii U may end up being the secondary system again, but that means it will still sell.
I was incredibly impressed with Xbox One (much more than PS4) until they showed their games.. All this tech and OS innovations yet the games look the same. I think that Nintendo actually may get more 3rd party support down the line but if not I'm still more satisfied with the games they produce than anyone else.

It is now!
Are indie games really indie if they are being financed through the public (Kickstarter) and releases are dependent on reaching certain goals?
To blessed to be stressed.
