Not that there's anything really wrong with the current one. But it's getting old. Which is funny, because it's supposed to be new. I think Nintendo has used up the current art style, it's gone from DS quality to Wii quality to 3ds quality to HD!
Alternately, that van gogh level was good. I would love to play a mario game based on this kind of painting!

Mario's look in SSBB is what made me never use him. Ever. If they changed the art style, it would just be terrible and wouldn't give me the same feeling I had with playing SMA2..

I'm okay with them when they're not used all the freaking time like they were in NSMB2. I hated the game for the stupid song that was nothing but "bahs". I'm glad NSMBU's music is tolerable and much better

The "bahs" are alright, but I have to admit, Rayman Origin's little singing thing is better. Though, that being placed in a Mario game probably just annoy everyone.

Sorry, I didn't direct that towards you at all. I'm just baffled that Nintendo Life is now like every other Nintendo forum on the internet where multiple users bring up Call of Duty as much as possible only to bad mouth it.
I doubt it's going to see itself change anytime soon, especially not with no new game in the series due anytime soon.
Mario Maker is due next year and I'm sure will include a pre-made 2D Mario game to play through to complement the level building functionality of the game (just like the Little Big Planet series has done on the competition).
Dunno if the art style wil ever change... In a way, that s mario, and i guess many people will disagree to see a nsmb (which we could call the milk cow/mainstream mario game for Ninty) with a toonish art style (even if would look beautiful to me)...
I guess the point is that Ninty should move on on something new, or keep developing concept for new 3d marios... Cos, imho, the 2d ones are pretty stale nowaday..

I have absolutely no problem with the artstyle, it looks fine. It's the gameplay I'm worried about because it's gotten stale, the series hasn't done anything new in 7 years.
NSMB needs to die a slow death please!! I hope the next 5 are all full on 3d/s style. Enough with the safe Mario!
Honestly I rather have the "Galaxy Team" deal with the "New" series, or make a 2D Mario game in general. At least they make a good Mario game and mix things up at the same time.

I'm with @gage_wolf, I just don't even want to see another 2D Mario for a while, especially not with Mario Maker coming out for people to play with. In fact, I'm pretty sick of side-scrolling games in general; I mainly just buy the classics instead.
Let's just give the side scrolling Mario a break for a while. After Mario Maker comes out, paying full price for 2D Mario titles will seem even less appealing.
Yeah...we need a break from it. Maybe wait until Nintendo comes up with something that's actually...new.
