One thing that the Wii U should be known for was Nintendo's laissez faire attitude when it came to the eShop. So I am curious what everyone's most ridiculous eShop game purchased was, and what inspired you to purchase it in the first place? Who knows maybe there is some hidden gem in the depths of the under $5 crowd.
My personal 0_o game has to be Humanitarian Helicopter. I picked up in the twilight of the Wii U because it was a free game, and why not. I still haven't figured out if it is just a bad unity game or something running on Nintendo's web framework that Mario and DK is on.
I'm not sure if this counts since it was technically free at the time, but I picked up The First Skunk Bundle just for the free gold coins that came along with it. It's kinda important for those of us who don't favor digital purchases. My Nintendo has ever so slightly improved since then.
The games in that compilation ranged from functional/mediocre to just plain broken/bad. I bet half the budget just went towards the licensed music that could be found throughout the collection.... If they were even paid for to begin with.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
The most ridiculous Wii U eShop game I bought...
Quite a few to be honest, but let me cherry-pick 5 good ones for all of you.
1. Citizens of Earth (also available on Nintendo 3DS)
You're playing the smeary Vice President of the World that was just elected (and 20+ unique followers that must gain your trust) in a modern world RPG full of ridiculous events. A great soundtrack, a huuuge world with many different environments, 50+ hours of gameplay, and REALLY cool and surprising new features unlock with every new party member. There are some minor bugs (save often), but it's worth it. Is the demo still available? Try it!
9/10
2. Octodad: Dadliest Catch (also available on Switch)
From the hilarious controls (especially in co-op) to the story and missions it's all just crazy fun. That Octopus Dad sure is a master of camouflage, how else could he be mistaken for a human by almost everyone, including his wife, and have perfectly healthy human children? Game can slowdown sometimes, but nothing gembreaking.
8/10
3. Cloudberry Kingdom
This 4-player platformer/racer/runner's level design can be customized in great detail, but I usually put it on super-mega-ultra-ÜBER-hardcore. If ramped up to the max there is often a zen-like flow when squeezing through the only possible path surrounded by bullethell madness.
8/10
4. Spin the Bottle! Bumpie's Party
This is a shockingly creative (and ridiculous) party game that uses Wiimotes and the Wii U GamePad in ways never seen before. Make sure you have at least 4 Wiimotes and plenty of friends around.
8/10
5. Little Inferno (also available on Switch)
I think the concept of this game is king of ridiculous. I recommend it to everyone. It will try its best to keep you happy and warm.

@PolarExperience: I think Astro Bears Party is on Switch and not Wii U.
@kkslider5552000 Costume Party 2 was one of my biggest letdowns. The first one was an annual tradition every October for me, the second usually gets booted up once before I remember they didn't bother to include off-TV play (although at one point they said it was coming). But on top of that, it just seemed like a check the boxes, phoned in sequel.
@PolarExperience No worries, while I intended it for the most absurd Wii U eShop all console marketplaces have them. I was really hoping a Meme Run purchaser would show up (I never went near that monstrosity) as I am curious what inspired the purchase (Price, gameplay, friend of developer, etc.).
@LetsGoSwitch That must of been a really bad experience if it got you to sell an entire console . But seriously, what inspired the purchase? At this point, the console with the game might be worth money just because it is a blacklisted, lost game.
I bought Alphadia Genesis because I just wanting a jRPG when there was very little else to purchase, and ended up with a very linear, very hollow, and never completed jRPG that I convinced myself at the time was okay despite all the flaws I saw.
@LetsGoSwitch lol. There was another one that always seemed to have a crazy Miiverse fanbase but was more or less a walking simulator in a 3D space (was supposed to be a horror game).
I don't know if ridiculous is an appropriate word for this one, but I think my worst Wii U eshop purchase (so far, I haven't tried every game I've bought yet I don't think) was Chasing Aurora. But I couldn't really say why, it was ages ago I bought it, booted it, gave it about 3 minutes, then never bothered with it again cos it seemed crap. Thankfully very little was paid for it.
