One of the first levels I'm going to create in this game is a world 1-1 style level. The original level 1-1 in the first Super Mario was a really clever way of teaching the mechanics of the game, such as placing the first mushroom in such a way that most new players would always touch it. After that, I might move on to more malicious levels.
@crimsontadpoles
That's what I'm going to do first, recreate World 1-1! I also want to make original levels, but I loved Super Mario All-Stars, with Super Mario Bros. 1-3 redone with Super NES graphics. So, I'd like to see what SMB 1 levels remade to look like in the style of SMB 3, SMW, and NSMBU would look like. Furthermore, I want to create "demakes", like remaking NSMBU & SMW levels in the style of SMB & SMB 3! Also, having the tiny Game Boy first-generation sprites it had, the original Super Mario Land may be far more enjoyable recreated in SMM! Along with remaking levels of classic 3rd party side-scrollers (as close as I can, using different assets), I'd one day like to reimagine Super Mario 64 levels in 2D, where possible (some would be quite hard to translate to 2D).
Anyone else want to try some of these remakes/demakes with SMM?
@Ralizah: 50$ with a Prime account? Is that for the edition with the artbook? Because that one's 50$/45€ here in Germany (like most recent Nintendo games, it's so strange to see their "big" games so cheap)
Only one version here in the States, and it's retailing at $59.99.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

I was about to write that too. Recent Nintendo games are cheaper in Europe than in NA recently.
Great example is Splatoon. Around $40 here, in US $60. I don't see the reason behind this..
Seeing Mario Maker for $50 offer what is a normal pricing here seems still strange to me. And you still need a Prime Membership if I understood it correctly? It seems bitter to me. :3
@BlueBlurIxM: I don't get why it's more expensive in the US, but ever since Amiibo were released, every Nintendo game released in Norway has been "budget" titles. My guess is that since most of these game has Amiibo support, they want to encourage people to buy Amiibo. With the price of the games being "budget", one could buy it and an Amiibo for the same price as a "normal" game. And many people are collectors, once they start buying Amiibo, they want more.
@AlliMeadow
And you think people in NA aren't collectors?^^
Maybe it's because Nintendo is more popular there, and so they can charge more money for it.
And keeping the price lower makes the chance of people buying the product more likely, and like you said make them buy Amiibo as well.
But that's getting off topic.
I actually was about to say something else before I got distracted by this pricing question earlier, and totally for got about it. xP
What I really like about Mario Maker at the moment are that references to Mario Paint. Feels totally nostalgic to me. The 2 little men that doing a workout.., the music, the symbols etc.. I just love that. ^^
Can't wait for this game! Like just everyone else, I'm going to recreate levels and probably make them harder later when we have all the stuff. I want to make a kind of labyrinth made with doors on the 6th day. I hope we can place more than 8 pair of doors. I would be so disappointed if I couldn't. The labyrinth won't be random btw. If you know the title of my level, the pattern will be so obvious. ... But why am I talking.. Nobody wants to hear my plans! ....
So it seems like our levels we upload won't stay forever. Common sense actually, but still interesting.
Let me quote it: "Please note that the course will not be published permanently and that some courses may be deleted after a certain period of time"
It says 'some courses'. If I had to guess, very popular levels will stay longer than not so popular one.
That can be a good or a bad thing. The good, junk levels will be deleted.. The bad thing, good levels that don't get much attention can get deleted as well.
What do you guys think about it?

I am guessing once it gets deleted the creator of the level can re-upload it. This is probably mostly to keep spam in check.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
I wanted to make sure I heard something correctly. Are the different 8-bit version of characters unlockable WITHOUT using their respective amiibo? I understand you can unlock by completing 100 Mario challenge, etc.

Yup, no Amiibo required, they just make it easier to nab in-game.

Thank you, and glad to hear it! I've not really been able to start an amiibo collection, and I really want to play with the likes of Mega Man (for my Mega Man level remakes), Sonic, and Wario (among others). I love that they'll have sound effects & music matching that character. Such a nice touch! I just hope 8-bit Mario amiibo is in plentiful supply, since this is a must-own game for Wii U. I want that Mega Mushroom & mustachioed enemies! ^.^
I'll be making "Find _______!" levels for those of you looking to fill out your costume collection. I have Villager, Rosalina, and Marth, among others.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
I noticed on Nintendo of America's website that if you buy this game digitally, you can check your receipt to see how you can request the idea booklet that comes with the physical copies. Not sure if that means they'll send you a booklet or it's a download code for a digital copy.

Hey! You can't do that, I said I was doing that first!
Once a LuigiMan, now a Dreamy representation of the Goddess of Nature.
Retired Palutena Gem Provider. Mario Maker Levels
The biggest challenge for me will be creating levels that are tricky, but not frustrating or unfair. It would be easy to make an insanely tough but possible level, but I'd want it to also be fun and satisfying when it's completed.
I thought you unlocked costumes by completing levels which featured them?
Given 100 Mario Challenge is a random online creation playlist, wouldn't that mean the unlock procedure described earlier in this thread assume people have created levels with amiibo which then means someone will have had to use the amiibo to make it unlockable so kind of like those achievements such as "beat a person who has this achievement".
@brewsky
Look at post #915. He ordered the booklet from them. I guess it's physical. ^^
@Grumblevolcano
In a treehouse event they said you can unlock them through the 100 Mario Challenge.
They wouldn't say that if it was just from a random level. I don't think so anyway.
