i have two ideas for levels.
first one, you need to dodge 20 rocky wrenches while waiting for a koopa shell to hit a p-switch to reveal a pipe that leads to the goal block.
2nd idea is a yoshi shooter type thing. there will be an exaust pipe behing a wall for yoshi to draw fire ammo from. which yoshi then needs to use a koopa clown car to kill 30 big magikoopas, 15 bowsers and bowser jr. s, and a monstorous stack of hammer bros. to get to the end. yoshi needs to go back to the beginning to withdraw from the exhaust pipe and get annother shot.

Is this a joke? Are you having a chuckle? Haha, very funny. I'm the one with a degree

I played Mario Maker today at the Nintendo UK Tour in Manchester and was very impressed, I need the retail copy in my hands right now. What struck me the most about it was how happy I was to be genuinely excited by 2D Mario platforming levels. When playing through the New Super Mario Bros games I always just felt like I was going through the motions and playing it because it was Mario rather than because I found what I was doing to be particularly fun, but the sheer inventiveness in the levels that I played was breathtaking. I'm pretty sure the demo just contained some of the levels that are pre-packaged into the game, can't wait to see what the fan community can do.

@Rixor13: Hm. Well, nothing beats the idea that I HAVE! MWAHAHA!!!
...
ahem I like the second idea. Seriously.

@multicoloredyoshi: Users can report offensive stages. I'm sure someone would report a ####s, and whatnot.

I like both ideas - especially the first one. But Koopa Shells cannot directly hit P-Switches, so you'd need to make it so that the shell hits a block that gives the player the P-Switch. Or, you could have a P-Switch follow lots of conveyor belts that eventually "gives" it to the player.

I don't think there will be as much offensive content as people are guessing. I mean, even blocks to form the shape of a penis shouldn't be banned since it would look very crude and rudimentary being made out of squares on a short screen. Most people probably won't even realize what it's supposed to look like

@Operative: You have a lot of faith in humanity...way more than me. I quit miiverse because I got tired of reporting posts where people just had to draw a penis. Seriously what is the obsession? Women don't draw their breasts. Anyway I fully expect people to act like immature trolls but since levels can be rated I think the ones that will rate well will be the ones that are actually fun levels.

I just remembered..
What happened to the mushroom that stretches Mario? Does it still exist?
I haven't seen it for a while. I saw Mario turning in a ?-Block or a spring tho.
If it does, it's probably one of the unlockable mystery mushrooms I think.

@NintyMan
Hehe.. I was searching for it for a minute, was about to ask what you want to tell me with that picture. And it was just hiding there in the corner! Thanks.^^

Probably nothing happens, but has anyone tried shaking the power-ups yet? Just saw NL's Lost Levels article and started wondering if the poison mushroom will be in this. lol

I just heard of an unlicensed, fan-created game called Super Mario Bros X on another forum. It is a Mario maker styled game that came out about five years ago. Has anyone here played it or has any thoughts on it?

It has a lot of features that Mario Maker doesn't but probably should, which is a little alarming considering this is a game created by hackers and Mario Maker is created by a billion dollar company..... I wonder if Nintendo ever tried taking legal action or closing down production of these types of games.

I normally lurk, but I have a question I'd really like to know the answer to. Does anybody know if we'll be able to get away with posting recreations of levels of 3rd party games, or would it somehow violate intellectual property and be removed? Like if I made a Metal Man level from Mega Man 2 pretty much identically, complete with conveyor belts going different directions. It'd still be using different assests than the original, and I wouldn't be profiting from it.

The only thing I've seen to go on in relation to this question is a recreation of a Zelda II palace, I think I saw during the Nintendo World Championships. So, I guess we'll at least be able to remake 1st party games?

Thanks for any help with this! I can think of so many classic games of the past I want to "Mario-ize." It's one of my main reasons for wanting SMM!

Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

@Rexcalibr
To me it's a completely another thing.
I don't think you can compare Mario Maker with hacked Mario games really. They may seem somewhat the same, but they aren't really. ... Mario Maker seems to me like "Create your own 'Lost Levels'" kind of thing. And hacked just look random and meh..
Nintendo doesn't really have to worry about that. Mario Maker is more accessible to a wide range of players, hacked not so much.
But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, I mean I don't really care at all for hacked games but this is seemingly pretty well made and I do like how it has a lot of tracks from different Mario games, co-op play, split screen play, and actual boss fights and worlds. Mario Maker will be better, yes, it's going to be more polished and released on a much broader scale and more accessable but just something to think about.

You should look more into it. It was made by the same guy who made Terraria. It has some pretty great stuff made for it. I recommend you look into A Super Mario Bros X Thing, and it's sequel, 2 games made with the SMBX engine, that really shows the full potential of SMBX.

You can do some pretty cool stuff.

However, the editor to make level isn't user friendly.

I tried using it and it was a pain.

I get the feeling the 8-bit Mario amiibo will be exclusive to Gamestop in the US. It's the first game on the Gamestop EXPO livestream and the 2nd game has been receiving a lot of preorder exclusives for preordering at different locations so I think Gamestop may get a different bonus from elsewhere for that one and the amiibo for SMM..

@Gridatttack: The SMBX editor is only not user friendly when you try to make complex events, other than that, it's extremely easy to pick up and make a standard level.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but SMM is only $50 on Amazon if you preorder it with a Prime account.

@Ralizah: Ha, I was just typing the same thing. I just preordered from Amazon
