d. Star Coins, Checkpoints, Chargin' Chuck, Bonus level and Desert level backgrounds; just a few things I'd appreciate for SMM.
I second this. I know Nintendo said they do not plan on releasing the Koopalings and other things mentioned but has it actually been confirmed that they are not wanting to do DLC?
I feel like DLC would be a great option for this game.

I think it will be tricky for DLC. If someone buys DLC and they make a level with it, do people without DLC get to play the level? If so, how many people will actually pay for the DLC? If not, then how will that split your user base? Would people be avoiding the DLC items to get more likes and more recognition?
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
I figured it would be like Smash, you can see the DLC (and go up against people who use Ryu or Lucas, play on the stage), but you won't be able to use them yourself until you buy it.

Keep it PG-13-ish.

This. That's how Nintendo has been doing all their DLC. Mario Kart 8 does the same.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

The issue is that then people who don't buy the DLC can still play the DLC, so there isn't a big incentive for a lot of the user-base to get it, only those that are really into building levels instead of playing them.

@TeeJay: Weird. I didn't know I could have still enjoyed the DLC maps without paying. I should try that with some Smash Maps I haven't gotten yet. I might be able to save a few bucks
@DefHalan: It'll be easier to do that playing with friends who bought the DLC than on random online, since you can tell them to choose that stage rather than relying on the RNG. I know I got to fight on the recent two DLC stages on my Wii U and I STILL donn't have the DLC for that version yet.
There's a reason all those updates with DLC take so long! They preload the DLC on the disc and you pay to unlock it.
@TeeJay: I know they do that with characters, because fighting against characters is a good way to advertise those characters. But being able to use the levels without spending money on them means paying for them just means I can select that level, it doesn't stop me from being able to play on that level.

@DefHalan: The levels won't show up on your stage select screen because you didn't buy them. They'll still be downloaded on the disc, though. So when playing online, if someone who has the DLC selects a DLC level you don't own, if the game chooses that level then you'll be playing on a level you didn't buy.

Well, you still gotta find someone who owns it, lol. Also, what if you have no internet?

This would make sense. You should be able to use the DLC if you want to create levels as tools and bosses, enemies and such. Other people should still be able to download those levels but not use those tools themselves for their own levels.
The only thing I don't like about how DLC worked in Mario Kart 8 is it literally splits players in three different categories and limits lobby and multiplayer interaction.... I hope it doesn't end up like that in future games.

are you sure about that? Because in Mario Kart 8 you have to switch between DLC pack regions in the online VS mode, so the obvious assumption to me is you are switching between groups of people who bought the DLC tracks and didn't. Why would this exist if anyone online can play on the tracks?

I've actually never played MK8 online with randoms, I've only ever played with friends, so in the case of MK8 was talking about that.

Ok, well yeah in Mario Kart 8 people who bought the DLC are locked into their own category, so online lobbies are split into groups between players who bought the first pack, second pack, and who bought both packs. You can switch between if you purchased the DLC and other players will be able to see you use DLC characters but they will not be allowed to play the DLC tracks unless they purchase them.
My point was, if Mario Maker makes DLC tools, I hope they make it to where players can still download stages with those tools (Boom-Boom, check points, Koopalings, etc) but just not use them in stages they created themselves. I don't know how Nintendo will go about it... assuming they are planning DLC at all.
