The Japanese Mario Kart 8 site confirms the Excitebike track is in the Egg Cup, not the Triforce Cup. This confirms that there won't be full retro Mario Kart cups in the DLC similar to Shell/Banana/Leaf/Lightning. This also opens many possibilities including that maybe the Triforce Cup is actually only LoZ based tracks.

You could argue it is a retro track but just not Mario Kart retro.
Even so, the Egg cup is on the top section where all the new tracks are, and the Triforce cup is on the bottom with the retro tracks.
Yes, it seems like the DLC feels free to break many conventions of the main MK8 game: a character very far outside the Mario universe is introduced, a randomized track, an old track is remade a 2nd time, and the DLC cups don't follow the structure of the main game.
^Why isn't Link on the Mario Kart 8 list? By the time they are relased the DLC will be out but the space between Mario & Yoshi could be big enough for Villager & Link tho.
@arronishere: This information should be updated when the second wave comes. Why would Luigi not work in Mario Kart 8, anyway?
Wasn't my question "Why isn't Link on the Mario Kart 8 list?" tho?
Let's face it: Ninendo doesn't want everyone to just buy Link and have three games support it.

They probably aren't shown to be supported as Link and Villager are DLC for MK8. maybe once the DLC is released they will become supported, or it might take some time but I think they will get support at some time.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
Let's find out what amiibo does in Mario Kart 8 first before we start reserving judgment over why certain (DLC) characters didn't make it in.

I think it would be cool if it is something similar to Smash Bros. A Racer that learns how you race and tries to counter it and become better. But I am only expecting something like vehicle skins for the characters. Like you have the Mario figure well the vehicle you are using has Mario paint on it no matter what character you are playing.

I don't know if somebody has brought this up yet, but here goes.
Are the new DLC tracks going to be playable online for people who haven't downloaded them?
I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.
Highly doubt it as then why would you buy the dlc? The user will most likely be split into those with dlc and those without possible with the option to join those without.
Since Link is DLC in this game, do you think the Link amiibo could be compatible?
As of right now, the Link amiibo is not compatible with Mario Kart 8.
...Yet.
It depends on how amiibo will work whether or not I'll have an issue with Link not being compatible.

Indeed. I think this is also the case why cant you select the track you want. Instead you choose from 4 choices given out. Im sure the DLC tracks wont appear there.
New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, a remake of Super Mario Bros 1 and The Lost Levels for NSMBDS.

I just can't see them wanting to split up the only userbase, myself. Wouldn't really make sense. Either they won't be playable online or they will, but you won't be able to choose it, if you don't own it. Since no single person chooses the DLC track, online isn't a reliable way to play said DLC track.
As for why you'd buy them? MK8's online isn't exactly phenominal. I like it well enough, but I'd rather be able to play the tracks at home. By myself. Or with friends. Online wouldn't be a reliable way of doing this.
So, this is how amiibo will work? And the update is launching before amiibo, so this must be the DLC update.
