I never even considered it before, but with the new update coming up it seems more appealing to me now. The only reason I want to transfer is so I can play Virtual Console games on my Wii U gamepad.
I didn't want to transfer before because I still play some Wii games with GC controllers. If I transferred, I don't think I would be able to copy Mario Kart / Smash Bros data back...would I?
Would you guys say it's worth it to transfer? I don't know if paying the "special price" is really going to cut it for me..
Really its up to you if its worth it or not. And yes all your Mario Kart/Smash Bros Data will be transferred to the Wii U its all or nothing and you cant transfer it back once you transfer it.

It depends on the game for me. I really like the off-screen play so paying to transfer a few titles isn't too bad (I wish it was free though).
As of right now there's about 20 games I would like to transfer over.
That number would probably be higher if the gamepad had better range and I could walk around my house with it like a handheld console or tablet.
I've transfered mine the other day. I find it more convenient to just switch between menus rather switching between consoles. The only downside is I can't play SSB Melee, my only GC game. But since I don't have a GC memory card anymore (I was using a friend's, but he has since taken it back), I can't regardless. I could just get another one via Amazon, but that's besides the point.
Also a side note, Wii games look ever so slightly grainy on Wii U, but you stop noticing after a few minutes.

I decided to try to transfer, so I opened the Wii shop channel to download the transfer tool. The Wii then said "An error occurred while accessing Wii system memory"
I checked on the Nintendo website and it said that I'll need to send in my Wii for repairs. I just used the shop channel yesterday and it was working fine!
This might be a sign....maybe I shouldn't transfer
I tried like four times and it still didn't work...I'm actually getting a little bit worried now
Everything else on my Wii is working just fine EXCEPT for the shop channel...unfortunately
Seeing as we're on the subject, I have a question.
I understand it's all or nothing, but what if a game has been deleted from the flash memory or SD card?
Will everything that has been downloaded, and then deleted, be automatically redownloaded and transferred?
It transfers your online account from Wii and merges it with Wii U accounts which will be affective for VC when it shows up on Wii U. So the games on the Wii menu will be erased, then replaced with Wii U versions.
I think it's worth it.
If you are getting errors, just tell it to retry, but don't turn it off.

I agree. I won't be able to play Brawl if I can't use gamecube controllers. Is there any way at all to transfer JUST the downloaded games, and not saves for retail games?
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

No. Just learn to use Wii classic controller pros. I used to play Wii games with GCN controllers, too. It's actually pretty easy to get used to the classic controller pros. That the main reason no one uses them, right?
I got used to classic controller pro in like 2 Smash Bros matches.

That's not the main reason, though. I'm an avid collector and I like to use all of my consoles somewhat regularly. If I transfer all of my data, my Wii essentially becomes useless.
I can live without the transfer, but it is kind of a shame that you can't choose what gets transferred.

For the life of me I can't figure out why we shouldn't be able to simply transfer the save data back and forth on an SD card or flash drive. Even if it had to do with piracy, can't we lighten up now that the Wii is in the ground?
Although it is more convenient to have everything you need on one console, it kinda makes my Wii seem like a waste of space. It's just a white brick collecting dust right next to my TV and isn't going to be used ever again. If you still want to use your Wii, then don't do it. If you do you should.
I just did the transfer and gave the Wii to my brother. I'm ok with using the Classic Controller Pro on Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Even my brother uses the Classic Controller Pro and he was against it as much as I was.
I say just transfer and go Wii U from here on out.
