It's kind of interesting that Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out on the Wii U eShop, but not the first one. So is it possible that Super Mario Galaxy is getting a HD remake like The Wind Waker and Wii Sports did?
Sunshine HD isn't going to happen because the game is built around analog triggers (which just about every Wii U controller lacks), and Nintendo isn't going to have any game that requires the Gamecube Controller Adapter. Plus, Sunshine may not be financially worth a remake in Nintendo's eyes due to it's black sheep status.
Galaxy HD is more than possible on the Wii U (although Off-TV Play wouldn't work) and in Nintendo's eyes makes financial sense even though you can already play the game on the Wii. It's also the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., so this and Mario Maker can be an easy way for Nintendo to ''celebrate'' it. I'm thinking that it would be announced at E3 2015 and released before or during the holidays. It would probably also use the 3D World engine and cost $30-$40. Well...that's my theory anyway.
But if it get announced, would you buy it? As for me, I...don't know. I still own my copy of Galaxy and I can't think of anything that could be improved on (unlike Wind Waker). I would just have to see footage of it (if it gets announced) and if any extras are announced for it.
I'd personally love to see ALL the 3D Mario games from 64 to 3D Land remade in HD in a collection pack. If it was JUST Mario Galaxy, I probably wouldn't buy it.
Eh, I'd rather they try a new Mario game than remake an old one. Yes, Super Mario Galaxy was amazing and beautiful, but all these remakes are slowing progress on making new games. It would be awesome to have another Mario game with larger levels again, and without the episodes.

If Nintendo gets someone else to develop it like Grezzo developing Majora's Mask 3D, then it wouldn't slow development down on new games.
Hm... good point. I'm not sure if I really want it, though. I already logged in like 250+ hours with both Super Mario Galaxies, beating both of them 100%. I think it's time for something else. But that's just me personally. I'd be happy if an official 1080p SMG existed, but I'm ready for the next one

The lack of analog trigger argument for Sunshine HD is weak. Nintendo put N64 games on the VC that required the separately purchased Classic Controller.
A workaround could easily be done using the current Pro Controller, while still offering compatibility with the GCN controller/adapter.
Also, Wind Waker was also the "black sheep" of the Zelda games at the time. But here we are enjoying it in HD on Wii U. Not saying Sunshine HD is going to happen, but it definitely isn't out of the realm of possibility.

There's also the fact that (at least as far as I can remember) you never HAD to shoot water at any particular strength other than full. The ability was there and it did make maneuvering just a TAD easier, but to be honest, I played through the game at full blast every time (unless I was just messing around) and had no real issues with any part of it.
They could easily release Sunshine on Wii U by just having F.L.U.D.D. fire at full capacity every time you hit the trigger. Don't want full lift? Tap the button like a game of helicopter. It would be perfectly playable.

Less people have played Super Mario Galaxy 2, so there's a bigger audience for that game. Not everyone double-dips for a VC game. That would be my take on it, if there's even a reason behind it.
Even though Galaxy is one of my favorite Mario games, I think a remake would be unnecessary. 64 (the DS remake doesn't count) and Sunshine would benefit from a remake much more than Galaxy.

I think SMG2 for Wii U eshop pretty much confirms it won't happen. If any Mario HD game is happening it'll be Sunshine with 64 not happening due to releasing 64 DS on the 3DS eshop instead.
If they don't put the first one on at all then they are saving it for something maybe next gen. (There again I prefer the second due to the removal of story and better levels).

It's not that Nintendo CAN'T do it, it's that it's counterintuitive to the point of a remaster. A remaster is a stop gap to satiate fans and quickly cash in on something popular. If there is a barrier to entry, then it's harder to justify the effort of remaking the game.
Also, I never want to play Mario Galaxy without a Wii Remote. That would just be awful.
I personally wouldn't like a remake of any Wii game. I just bought Super Mario Galaxy a couple of years ago. It would feel stupid if I bought an HD remake after only a few years. I feel that a Super Mario Galaxy remake should come no earlier than 2019. Give more 4 more years and I might want one. It's just too soon...
