Topic: gamecube games to be downloadable for wii u

I find the rumor fairly plausible. Nintendo doesn't make a dime on the Gamecube used game sales, so cutting GC support in the Wii U and offering them up as DL titles would be logical.

I can now see why you would consider taking the upcoming generation off Mickeymac.

Nintendo needs to do this. Can guarantee you the next generation of PlayStation consoles will have downloadable PS2 games.

As for all this about "GC games too big" etc. Well... Nintendo needs to figure out a way to make it happen. When the competition is able to offer 10GB games for download, you need to as well, if you want your service to be taken seriously.

Maybe a Cloud-type storage thing?

I would really love if Nintendo could do that - it would show the company is being really progressive with online services, and would give me a lot of confidence back in the company.

Make it happen.

...Did people miss my comment?

The fact that you can use external HDDs?

2D games can't really be improved much through emulation but polygonal 3D games can and they were on the wii's vc, that's a very good indicator that nintendo will do the same for gamecube games.

Yet- cloud isn't convenient. And I don't think using HDDs aren't user friendly especially Nintendo's simple method of saving games- I mean, damn, if you find this hard:

"Plug in your HDD"
"Download Game to HDD by clicking/selecting Save to HDD"
"Select HDD icon in the Menu, select your game- you're off"

Now, Cloud gaming:
"Save game to Cloud"
"Connection Online- please wait"
"Connection error. The server is under maintenence. Please wait several minutes and try again" Will not always be the case, but that's inconvenient considering if you save to an SD or HardDrive, plug and play, you're set to go!

1TB for $80. That's a steal. Expensive for some. Sweet deal for others. And a helluva lot more user friendly than Cloud. Because not being able to obtain your save from a cloud isn't friendly..

Keep in mind: GCN games didn't store much 'data' (weren't most of them 1.5GB or half of a DVD rom some didn't even use most of the space anyways).

Really now. I bet you've been using a cloud service for a long time now - Gmail? Hotmail? Facebook? I certainly have, for over 10 years. Only once have I ever experienced an outage of longer than a hour.

I also find logging in to my cloud services quite easy. I guess some people would struggle with that pesky password thing.

We're talking about video games. Not email and social networks. Dodge the bullet, but my point still stands

I sure as hell wouldn't want to hey, one day, decide to play a game. But how convinient, the server is going under maintenance, and I can't access the save.

Rely on cloud for my save file? Hell no. Throw that out the window. Give me an option? Sure. But I wouldn't use Cloud for my saves, especially in regards to game save files.

HardDrives plug and play is user friendly. Done deal.

I dont' see why Nintendo shouldn't offer both. Sony does (at the moment Cloud is just for save games, but that'll expand out, I guarantee it).

Good.

I'm still not going to use it as a primary method. Maybe back up, but that's it.

"Cloud" gaming isn't going to happen. Seriously. Downloads are way better anyway. External hard drives are extremely cheap nowadays. Could probaly get a 500GB drive for less than $40. Each GC title takes up less than 1.5GB of space.

For the games that will be available:
Probaly be around the same price as ebay (15/20 euro around here, gotta pay shipping for titles)

Buying the gamecube disc = having to have a gamecube/wii plugged into the tv as well as the wii u...having a gamecube controller (likely wired) and a memory card.
Buying as a download for Wii U = instant download. May have graphical updates. (the new system is HD) Compatibility with a newer controller...possibly even streaming to the wii u controller's screen. no need for discs/memory cards.

Except that I am sure because of the Wii alot of people have GC controllers and Memory cards. ANd anyways its not hard to get any of those anyway. Its not like having to go on Ebay for a NES controller or something like that.

As for graphical updates I doubt it due to the fact that they just emulate the games. They didnt update graphics on any of the NES games or SNES games except what they had to for legal reasons.

Hence the reason people can use their existing discs with the controllers/memory cards on the wii if they want.
They could remake some titles, Wind Waker for example looks stunning in HD and would be a perfect title for them to remake. The whole 3D classics thing is exactly this. and they've remade numerous other games before.
A remake of some titles would offer a selling point to people, and would also make Nintendo a ton of cash.

My bad. I didn't realise that you were a professional market analyst from 20 years in the future who has come back to give us your awesome, completely qualified, insights.

Cloud is nowhere near stable enough and reliable enough for the majority right now. Even if it was....well it's Nintendo, they're hardly gonna be the first through the gate with it.

... I don't think you need to be an analyst of 20+ years to know the inconvenient truth :3

Cloud may happen as an option. But hopefully will not be the only choice because I prefer the simple download to my HDD. If I go to Puerto Rico and decided to take my WiiU- I know I won't be having internet access, so I won't be able to play my GCN games because it's stuck in the "Cloud". Oh, but my HDD- it's right there.

Just saying.

I would like that. There are some Gamecube games I still haven't had the chance to buy and some that I regret trading in.
