Topic: Disney Infinity General Discussion

The Disney Infinity 2.0 thread is pretty old by now and there has been a lot of news covered in the Disney Infinity 3.0 news thread. I thought it was time to get a General Discussion thread running for the series. So here we are, the general discussion thread for the Disney infinity series.

I put it under the Wii U area as I felt it would be the most appropriate place, mods feel free to move or delete if this is incorrect.

How has there not been a Peter Pan playset yet? Tinkerbell has a figure but I would have expected a Peter Pan playset with Pan and Hook figures. It seems like it could be an awesome playset and give Tink a playset to use, rather than just be a Toy Box Figure.

Disney seems more interested in chasing fast money by making this replace traditional tie in titles than jumping on the Disney legacy. Only playsets for 3.0 are The three star wars ones, Inside Out, and Age of Ultron.

With 3.0 being all Star Wars, I think this will be the biggest Disney Infinity. After this point I don't think future games will do as well. It is kinda sad. As a Disney fan I want them to continue with DI and explore new and old IPs. I feel like 3.0 is designed purely to get them the most money, without thinking of 4.0 and further. They should have just released 1 Star Wars playset this year and some Disney Classic playsets. It would have given DI a longer life span.

Or I could be wrong and they will figure out a way to keep lots of interest in the series

Turns out the new Marvel Playset coming out "Marvel Battlegrounds" will be compatible with all Marvel Figures and support 4-player multiplayer. That is some cool news.

Why not both? It isn't like you have to buy all DI figures Day One or else they are gone. It can be a slower process.

I finished my DI 1 & 2.0 collections just in time for 3.0 to release. Going to get the game digitally with that special introduction price and then start the figure collecting.

How many characters are there all together for 1.0 and 2.0? We are buying the used versions at Gamestop since they have the buy 2 get 3 free sale right now...yeah I thought it was worded wrong too, but it isn't, it is actually buy 2 get 3 free.

Okay of the regular characters (minus the crystal characters) if I counted right on the main site there are 45 for 1.0 and 2.0 right?

The Incredible figures are pretty hard to find, mostly Syndrome. Good luck finding them

@DefHalan: If you get the game digitally can you tell us how it went? I have a base and several figures from 1 and 2. I know it's just the toy box for $20 but I've read you can download levels like the PC version which we also play. And the new hub looks huge but I don't know if you need a 3.0 figure to open it, I know the old ones are use able but I'm not planning on any 3.0 toys at the moment. I downloaded 1.0 for free after buying 2.0 and bought some Pirates figures but can't play it w/o the crystal piece, I never would have DLd it had I known.

Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

DefHalan

@rjejr: the toy box should be able to be played even without 3.0 characters. Playsets are those crystal pieces and those will require certain characters and certain software for each one. The Pirates figures will work in 2.0 and 3.0 Toy Box but the Pirates Playsets will only work in Disney Infinity 1. Captain America will work in 2.0 and 3.0 Toy box but the Avengers Playsets will only work in 2.0. It has already been confirmed that the old Wii U portals will work on 3.0. So downloading the game should work just like the DI 1 download.

I've been researching Disney Infinity a bit and I'm somewhat interested in getting it. The whole thing is a little confusing to me, so I was hoping someone here could answer some of my questions.

First off, what is the incentive to buy extra characters? Obviously aside from the fact that you can play as your favorite character from a franchise, do the figures actually play significantly differently?

Second, Do you need to get the 3.0 portal to play 2.0 and 1.0 or are those portals forward compatible?

And finally, if you download the game digitally do you need to go out and buy figures to be able to play if you don't already own any?
