I wanted something new. i might anger some people here, but I'm going to openly speak my mind. I'm sick of the motion control gimmick. I wanted a console WITHOUT motion control. I DID have an Xbox 360, it broke, and I don't think I'd get a new one because they copied wii with the Kinect gimmick. Forget a PS3. No exciting games, and they have the Move controller, which is a huge ripoff of the wii. I was hoping Nintendo would TRULY innovate. I don't want "mii" games. I wanted a NEW console with NO Wii-Related Crap WHATSOEVER. Of course, I wouldn't care if the console was backwards compatible with the Wii, but this console is just an expansion OF the wii. I can't believe I really believed those rumors. and WTF. I HATE the 3DS. Nintendo just keeps releasing new more systems with the same gimmick. DS, DSlite, DSi, DSiXL, WTF Nintendo! I love Mario, I love Zelda, I LOVE Super Smash Bros. BUT NOT ON THE DAMN Wii! I was REALLY REALLY hoping for something special, but Nintendo completely blew it. The controller is designed poorly, and the Wiiu is just a bigger Wii with updated hardware. And the main controls are the wiiu controller, and it can be used with the wiimote. I'm upset. I was hoping Nintendo would SERIOUSLY create something new, unique, different. The most fun I've ever had is with the gamecube. The wii bored me soon after playing it. I want to just play a game, not swing my freakin arms everywhere. Now, time to move the controller with a touchscreen! Nintendo is cheap. It's time for me to give up on them. I hate the wii gimmick so so so much. Xbox 360 is boring. Xbox 360 had Halo 3, GTA4, and more, and it was fun. This Kinect garbage is terrible, and Sony needs to stop with the move crap. What am I supposed to play? I want a controller and a console. I don't want to play mario where I have to swing my damn arms everywhere! This is the fall of nintendo. They say they want to recapture the hardcore gaming market, but they really kept the Wii name? I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself, but WTF WTF WTF. I can't believe this. This system is going to be terrible. I DO NOT WANT a Super Smash Bros game that will be on the 3DS and the Wiiu. I just want a game that PLAYS ON ONE CONSOLE, AND IS MEANT FOR ONE CONSOLE. Nintendo, WTF! WTFFFFFFFFF. I don't think this is an 8th gen console. It's more like a 7.5 gen. Kinda like the Xbox 360 and Kinect. Kinect made the Xbox 360 get a redesign. 8th Gen will come in 2015-ish, and hopefully Nintendo will release something OTHER than a new Wii. If THIS is Nintendo's 8th Gen console, I'm giving up. I loved nintendo for the originality. Mario, Zelda, Smash bros, Animal crossing. Xbox 360 and PS3 have so so so many first person shooters. So unoriginal. Nintendo is trying too hard. Like I said, it's time for me to just give up on Nintendo. But could they convince me otherwise? I don't want wiimotes. The wiiu controller is ugly. I want something new, fun, different. The Wii gimmick is going strong after all these years. Wii profits are down, what makes people Want a Wii U? When it's nothing but an updated Wii.
This, the following, is the ONLY way Nintendo can capture me back as a user:
1.Wii U is released in 2012, sells to kids. Bet it's a fun toy, but not for serious gamers.
2. Nintendo gets ready to announce the REAL 8th gen console in 2014 or 2015.
3. System is COMPLETELY unlike the Wii. Features built-in motion control for if you WANT it. No sensor bar on your TV. Smaller controller with the touchscreen, with several "apps" that will transform the controller into a "wiimote" for people who want to play Wii games.
4. New Zelda, New Mario, New Smash Bros, New Mario Kart, New Animal Crossing ALL at Launch of the NEW console. Like I said, just ONE console and ONE controller (of course, more of the same controller for multiplayer. I'm talking about one KIND of remote. No wiimotes, nunchucks, wiiu controllers, etc). Under $500, just an amazing system. Nintendo SERIOUSLY had their shot with the Wiiu, but I HOPE HOPE HOPE Nintendo has a trick up their sleeve.
I know I've probably repeated myself like 500 times, and I'm just getting my thoughts out, but I REALLY hope the Wiiu is just a short-lived console, and the REAL 8th Gen console will NOT be a Wii. I said that before didn't I? crap.
Well, all I know is that I miss my gamecube and xbox 360. 2 best consoles ever. Animal crossing, Mario party 4,5,6,7, Mario Kart, Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros. Melee, and for xbox, Halo 3, GTA4, Saints Row 1 and 2, COD, Oh man fun fun fun times. The wii is for kids.
The 7 year olds who got the Wii in 2006, are now 12. Those 12 year olds will be 13 when the Wii U comes out. Does nintendo really think 13 year olds want this system? Seriously, Nintendo, you have so much potential. I know you want to make something that appeals to everyone, but thats when you start to fail. Too much tech! DS, Wii, 3DS, Wiimotes, nunchucks, gun-wii-controllers, wii balance boards, wii steering wheel, Wiiu, Wiiu controller. All of these things are TOO MUCH.
If I could run Nintendo, I'd let the tech run it's course, and simply unveil ONE system for ONE type of controller with NO additions. And ONE portable console that doesn't use the DS gimmick.
Ok I'm done. I lost faith in Nintendo. Lets hope they can REALLY show me they have what it takes with their NEXT NEXT console after Wiiu. I'm pretty depressed right now.

The only thing I'm angry about is that they didn't explain any new First-Party games, the online, the price, or anything I was looking forward to hearing. The technology looks great though.

I'm glad Nintendo decided to stick to courting casual gamers. Wii U is HD, backwards compatible with Wiimotes, and I get to play VC games wireless on my tablet controller. What's not to like? Not hardcore enough? No problem, go buy a PS3 Slim or a Stealth Box. You don't like them either? Well, then it's time to build a custom PC at iBUYPOWER.
ITT: OP doesn't like motion controls and is ticked that Nintendo's going to continue building off of their success with non-traditional control schemes by coming up with new ways to avoid the same old sixaxis-style controller.
Honestly, it's an evolution of what's already there. We don't know enough about it yet to say anything for sure regarding its online capabilities, but we do know that it's going to continue using motion controls due to the fact that it'll still be using Wii M+ controllers in addition to the new tablet-thing. I'm sorry you're disappointed, and I'm sure you're not the only one out there who was, but why them continuing with the motion controls is apparently such a surprise to you is beyond me — they're just following the same line of innovations that's sold systems for them in the past, and they're gonna keep following it until it comes to an end.

Personally I think it's great. Just seeing the trailer for it made me feel the same excitement I felt when I first saw the wii. I think this has alot of potential, if online is improved this will be great.

It's not about what you want, it's about the reality of the situation - with the WIiMote, Kinect, and Move, motion control, in some form, will be around for a while.

Sony is not your friend, sitting next to you, copying your homework. You don't need to concern yourself with Sony copying Nintendo. You are not the CEO of either of these companies. You buy the console you want, you have no input beyond that.

You don't know if Nintendo have innovated yet, you've had a brief glance at Reggie standing in front of a big screen, with a tech demo playing in the background. Your wish for no 'Wii related crap' was always going to go unanswered, as this is a console from the same company.

The rumours have not been proven or disproven. You have seen a tech demo and a photo.

Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are 2 of the highest rated, and finest gaming experiences of the current generation. Nintendo is not responsible for your poor taste in games, nor your knee-jerk, exaggerated reactions to their consoles.

You don't know enough about the controller to pass any sort of judgment. The SNES was just a bigger NES with updated hardware. All consoles follow that pattern.

Don't buy Smash Bros. However, waiting until you know anything about the game, before making this judgement, would be a good move. I'd hate for you to rush into a long, angry post.

what makes people Want a Wii U? When it's nothing but an updated Wii.
All consoles are effectively updated versions of the previous console. What makes people want to buy a PS2 when it's just an updated Playstation? Did the PS2 sell?
The wii is for kids.

You better stick to pc gaming then. Because there will never be another home console without motion control. Not one that any developer wants to be successful anyway. Just like noone thinking about it would ever release a console today without a controller having an analogue stick (though to be fair the wiimote does skim very close to this). Its the same thing
