@NightmareEater: Nobody said Sora wasn't possible, it's just extremely unlikely. Besides, this thing isn't that accurate other than K Rool and the veterans being high up. Most of it is just Reddit polls that make up a mere fraction of the official votes, which is why Shovel Knight is so high up. Reddit makes up most of Shovel Knight's supporters.
It can't be accurate if it only counts the U.S. and Japan.
Even so, I really hope the Fighter Ballot's not used up by a veteran.
It's not going to be "used up" at all. The ballot isn't a competition where the winner gets in Smash, it's to gauge who is most popular. They could do two or three. Depends how good our ideas were.
@NightmareEater: You're heavily misinterpreting the available information. No one at any point said Sora couldn't possibly get in. On the flipside, if this poll is at all indicative of the actual fighter ballot, Sora won't be happening as there would be 62 characters in the same ballot with higher popularity. Either Sakurai would have to REALLY take a shine to Sora or they'd have to make sixty plus DLC characters for the game.
With that said, I figure Sora should be a little higher on that list, as his popularity outside of Reddit may be a tad higher since Reddit has more niche voters and KH appeals to multiple groups. I still don't believe he's anything more than a long shot, but I also believe this poll underrepresents his odds.
@IceClimbers: Similarly, I feel people are drastically underestimating Shovelknight's popularity. However, this poll definitely over represents him. Since it focuses the US and Europe, giving Japan the short end of the stick, Shovelknight's utter lack of any presence whatsoever in Japan isn't at all represented. Still, Shovelknight DOES have popularity. He certainly suits the demand criteria. It's just a question of whether he catches Sakurai's attention.
Poor Okami Amaterasu, with only 0.08% of people that played her game.
And Midna / Wolf Link can't happen... yet. Not until Smash 5 because #iceclimbersproblems
But, yeah, more interesting versions (that actually play different) of popular characters, please. Like Dark Samus, Paper Mario, and Majora's Mask Link (sorta like Pokemon trainer.)
And as cool as a Monster Hunter hunter in Smash sounds, that's like appreciating the Mona Lisa via etch a sketch. And all of that series' iconic characters (the monsters) also have Ridley problems. But a MH stage would be dope.

What makes you think they'd be like the Ice Climbers? If anything, their situation would probably be more similar to that of Duck Hunt, and a more reasonable reason for that not happening would be that Midna is an assist trophy.
@NintendoFan64: I don't feel like being an assist trophy should count as a reason for someone not to get in. Wouldn't mind seeing Wolf Link playable, either. Won't happen any time soon, but I'd still love it.
I'd argue against Wolf Link for being too many Links, but then I remembered this is the same game with 3 Marths (as in similar move sets) as three different characters.
I'm up for anything really*, but Sora would really surprise me considering how protective of their IPs SE is usually.

*Except non video game origin characters.
Smash is a AAA high profile big name game though. People BEG for their characters to get in; it's a very coveted honor for a company to get their character in Smash. Something tells me SE would be okay with it
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
@CaviarMeths: That seriously makes no sense. I'm sorry, but I hear "too many swordfighters" way too mich. at what point did the primary weapon of the character tell you everything about them? Are there too many characters that punch? Are there too many ranged characters? How about too many hammer swingers? Swords are a common weapon. It's something that's easy to personalize to a character and has centuries or even millennia of lore with tons of variety between real life inspirations and fantasy weapons. The same can be said for many weapons, including your own two hands. I just don't understand what's wrong with the number of sword fighters in the game, especially considering how few actual clones exist at this point. (Not counting semi-clones and variants, as those are different enough to justify their existence.)
I mean, yeah, maybe we could see some axe men or archers or a bo staff sometime. But in the end, would it make a difference from a gameplay standpoint?

Because Midna and Wolf Link are two distinct models, neither of which is a tiny polygonal duck sprite, which was why the ice climbers couldn't run on 3DS. If you can come up with a more fleshed out / distinctively playable yet-untapped Nintendo character than Midna / Wolf Link then be my guest.
